Trust me, I live there, you will need a survival guide the size of your backpack. |

Some are visible, some aren't. You may see three toed reptile tracks larger than a human's foot. Take it for what it's worth, laugh it off, whatever. If you do see them, recall someone alluded to them. There's things that are invisible that walk thru the treetops, breaking branches. If you view them with the sun at the right angle you'll see--yeah, true--a "Predator" like shimmering as they pass. There's also "tree-men". These things look like young trees, but walk. yeah, sounds crazy, but they've been reported in Crestone, Paonia, the Black Forest. Doubtlessly they're elsewhere, I'm just relating what I know. And, yes, there's Bigfoot, which is real and no joke or fantasy. There's also ufos, and with ufos come aliens. The skeptics can hoot all they want, it's how things are. Watch out for hypothermia. Even summer rains will give you that at altitude. It'll also take you awhile to adjust to the altitude here. Cut yourself some slack for safeties sake and plan on multiple redundancy of backup gear in case your basic survival skills don't do the job. It's not a fault of your's, these mountains are hard on Marines, even. No lie, just fact. Good luck and stay alive! |

When I say remote we had not seen one cut-line in the last two hours we were cutting our own with D7Cats. That would be my current preferred mode of transport in the 'lean years'. Roughing it means having your own means to fix everything. I assume a air compressor could be a set of bellows that uses some air bags of the industrial size and moving them can be manual of mechanical, what matters is you have enough store air to do any task you desire. The modern homestead desperately needs a new design for the 'yard tractor' and it's multiple attachments that makes it your new best friend when it comes time to do chores in the wilderness. If bigfoot doesn't find you he isn't in the area, that doesn't mean there is nothing that doesn't classify you as 'food'. I could live with tint solar power bulbs stuck to trees along a path as being 'helpful' without wrecking the location |

Your proof is a roll of TP. Nothing like 300 people at a bonfire on some gravel-bar on the river and no escape until morning when the canoes are unlocked. The winter ones had more people but the some always insisted they 'knew a shortcut' and really they didn't. Parks are where they keep changing things in the hope it remains unchanged for generations. Oh yeah, wildfire is bad in any setting so going underground is something that will have to be done at some time. Some do that for the whole main structure if terrain allows for it. I would think a tire wall networked together and backfilled with local materials would qualify as being strong and fireproof. There are already ATV parks so the next step up would to have little cabins you could rent that would take a day of quadding to get to and sit back and have broadband for the time you are there and explore that area and take your garbage with you on your way out. Little gas station and a quad salvage yard and that's about as wilderness as I want to go at the moment. That still leaves 1,000 or so miles of wilderness. Parks should have critter cams that you can follow on-line to see how the wildlife is doing. (in a vibrant economy) |

Hey, a hole is a hole. Get it quick before rigormortis sets in and it gets cold. You can also do this to a fish if you cut the head off and just do the stomach. That slime is real sweet. If you come across another bushman, it's customary to have anal sex, but NEVER make eye contact or else it gets weird. If you wear a fur hat with a tail on the back it means your a bottom. If you wear a homemade necklace with bear claws on t, it means your a top. If you both have neither, it's just straight up oral sex. No spitting, that's rude, real rude. |

Welcome to the tribe. Trail-guide here, couple things... Weight is everything! Pack light. Be careful with your traps! Great to know & practice but, illegal & dangerous. Be certain, be certain, be certain, to unarm or clear them before leaving the forest! An abandoned trap will remain lethal to the critters. You don't want to trap some life only to have them suffer and die needlessly. If you get caught setting traps by rangers, you could get in a lot of trouble, illegal hunting, hunting out of season, etc.. You could try the defense of "i'm only practice-building & not using bait". Watch your own hands & feet around your bush-traps! Everybody sooner or later triggers on themselves by accident! Live by tbe sword... If it looks like it would hurt to accidentally trap your own hand etc.. don't doubt that. IT WILL! Camping: pack light. Weight is everything. Research: ultralight backpacking, "the big three", 3lbs frame-pack, 3lbs tent, 3lbs 20 degree sleeping bag Never ever shelf-shop or impulse-buy gear. Research! Weight being the biggest factor. If the weight of the product's not on the package, it's prob too heavy. The website rei.com publishes the weight of everything they sell. Doesn't mean you have to buy from them but at least you can research the weights & trail reviews. Water! Backpacking is leapfrogging from water source to watersource. The msr miniworks is the perfect filter because it threads perfectly onto these: The widemouth Nalgene The Polarbottle Every bottle in the Camelback line The PERFECT canteen: any widemouth bottle that threads to the miniworks filter The PERFECT 3 season tent: Any tent that has: 2 pole & free standing I use the Kelty Salida 2 Light enough for one, large enough for two [link to www.youtube.com] |
