Ahhh - I knew I'd get one or two of your type to be negative about it but I already copped to it being a little selfish. Cut me some slack AC, and join in the fun. Surely you have a story to share! Life is a spiritual war and no matter where we lay our head, we live in a warzone. There will be casualties. You do get to choose your side. I chose the Bright Side where my God fights for me. Others chose the Dark Side and fight for an entity that views them with disdain and discards them. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 53564100 United States 04/06/2014 06:22 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | yesterday at work, a man was sitting with his wife, eating lunch at a restaurant I bus tables at. I was doing my work, when I notice him wave at me- I expected he may need something, so I go over and ask how I can help him- He starts to hand me a ten dollar bill. I tell him he "doesn't have to" and he stunned me with this reply- "Ah, But I wan't to" with a kind smile. It made my day because I am in poverty, Ten dollars goes a long way in my book(when you make about 700 dollars a month) After his meal I went outside and shook his hand and said this "It means a lot what you did, and it makes a difference. We need more people like you, please keep doing what you're doing." |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 754536 United States 04/06/2014 06:23 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ok, but only because you insist :-) I bought the wife a nice used vehicle several years ago. Shortly after purchasing it our second daughter left for college in a town about 50 miles away so my wife "donated" her vehicle since it was nicer, newer, and most likely more dependable than the one our daughter had. One night on the way back home after coming home for a visit, my daughter hit a deer that jumped in front of her and totaled the vehicle (S15 Blazer). As it happened I was recounting the story to a friend who had one in excellent shape but with a bad engine and he wanted to sell his. I bought it. Fast forward a year or so and my oldest daughter and her husband were in a tough time financially. Knowing my son-in-law was a mechanic by trade, we gave them both Blazers and he installed the good engine in the good body. They drove it for awhile then he landed a great job and they were able to buy another later model car. Since our son-in-law and daughter weren't driving the Blazer, they let his sister, who had 2 children and no vehicle borrow it. She drove the vehicle for about a year until her sig other found a better job at which time they returned the Blazer. Move forward to last year when my business failed (not a bad thing since that was the impetus which caused me to return to The Lord after many years running from Him). The wife and I have struggled since and when my truck went down we were unable to spend the money to fix it. I just learned the other day that our oldest and her hubby insist on giving us a gift -- you guessed it. The blazer is coming back home. It will be a real blessing, as it has been to so many since we originally bought it. I apologize for the length, but you asked for it :-) |

And it's not about money - it's about reaching out and connecting to one another through goodwill. And paying it forward. Anonymous Coward User ID: 754536 United States 04/06/2014 07:00 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Two days ago there were two threads going and several of us were giving upgrades to people who couldn't afford them. I sent a four month upgrade to someone. Within minutes, the threads were deleted. I wrote to two nice mods and suggested they leave those threads alone. GLP could have more paid subscribers if some of us are willing to help others. In all fairness, I'd like to point out that I'm not looking for an upgrade. Look at my user number and it'll indicate (I believe), how long I've been here -- quite some time. In all that time I've been anon and content with that. |

Just for a FYI, my kid and I decided we were going to do something good today. Turns out, I didn't have the energy to do too much, but we did slip a $10 to a homeless guy and bought overly-priced candy from a local fundraiser group lol. Turned out to be a pretty great day around here. Hope yours was too! "Standing on a hill in my mountain of dreams, Telling myself it's not as hard, hard, hard as it seems." "see, that's there we differ. you can learn a lot more in the journey than in the destination." ~eekers "Benghazi. We remembered you". ~JypsieWind |

I automatically re-subscribe every four months, but the ban says it's because of my IP. I really don't blame GLP. It's takes money to run a website. I'm happy to pay, and I'm happy to help others who can't afford it. I'm not i to censorship so I won't delete your responses but that's not what this thread is about. People get self absorbed in their lives that everyone else is just an annoyance in their day. Have a great day! |
