Re: The Vegans ... are you one
Romans 14:2 One person’s faith allows them to eat anything, but another, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. 3 The one who eats everything must not treat with contempt the one who does not, and the one who does not eat everything must not judge the one who does, for God has accepted them.

One of my children is mostly vegan, it just came naturally to her. I try to sneak in as much animal fat as I can into her diet and we've discussed how important it is for her to eat a complete protein so I have some special food for her that helps meet her needs.
 Quoting: nah™

you try to sneak animal fat into her diet? this is nasty and in contradiction with the stupid quote that you illustrated.

Re: The Vegans ... are you one
MEAT eaters.” I saw that headline (and others) this week and I read: “Media misunderstand science (again).”

One of the most basic concepts in science is that correlation does not imply causation—even though it is sometimes highly suggestive of it. For example, in post-war Germany, as the stork population fell, so did the human birth rate. But as I was deeply troubled to learn, storks do not cause babies—rather, economic growth led to both destruction of stork habitat, and to declining fertility rates.

So it goes with vegetarianism and longevity. It’s absolutely true that vegetarians live longer (at least among Seventh Day Adventists, the target group of the study). In fact, in this study, vegetarians live six to nine years longer, which is a huge effect. But vegetarians are also more likely to exercise, be married, smoke less and drink less alcohol—all factors that also contribute to a longer life. The actual causal relationship between becoming vegetarian and living longer is unclear, and is certainly smaller than the correlation might seem to suggest.

Now, should you be vegetarian, or at least a meat-reducer? Absolutely. In the hidden confines of factory farms, animals live in conditions of suffering that no decent human being could sanction. Eating a single egg means that one hen was locked in a cage in darkness, barely able to move, for 24 hours. Was it worth it, in exchange for the cost of going free range, or even switching to porridge in the morning? It seems pretty difficult to justify.

But for those concerned with animal suffering, touting the health benefits of vegetarianism (as many veg advocacy organisations do) can not only be misleading, it risks being downright dangerous. By far the most likely culprit for the health costs of eating meat is red meat: rich in saturated fat and carnatine. But, in terms of animal suffering per calorie, red meat pales in comparison with chicken, eggs, and fish (where the animals live in far worse conditions, and where dramatically fewer calories are produced per animal). So if, by promoting the health benefits of meat reduction, consumers cut down on red meat and compensate with chicken, eggs and fish, then the veg advocate might have done more harm than good.

As with all areas of doing good, we need to use effective altruism: to think hard, and find good evidence to work out the consequences of our actions, and try to do the actions that do the most good—whether that’s doing the most good for animals, for humans, or for anything else. Some good-seeming actions can achieve very little, and some can even backfire. Promoting the health benefits of vegetarianism might be one.

Plant eating is much easier on the ecosystem, for sure.

The real problem for us is human overpopulation. As with the current methods of recycling, it looks great in spirit, but the ship is still sinking.

And stop acting like you are on a mission from God or something. No need to broadcast that you have herpes.

Re: The Vegans ... are you one
I am a Personal Trainer who specializes in Strength Training.

My worst performing client is a raw vegan. She trains just as hard as my other clients, similar programs, dedicated etc. She owns a health store so takes all the right supplements, she sleeps well, is still young enough to expect decent gains, however she progresses the slowest.

She has been raw vegan for 15 years. She tells me when she was in her 20's she had great health and looked good while eating raw vegan. My response is most people in there 20's have great health and look good.

In the last decade she has consistently got fatter (she is of small build, and has what is commonly referred to as a 'skinny fat' build) and she is often sick - she blames this on being exposed to sick people at her shop all the time (she is a germ freak).
She came to me 6 months ago to get strong. I am really struggling to make progress with her, I have been PTing for 5 years and have never had anyone progress this slow, even people that train 1x a week and party all weekend are doing better than her.

I have only ever trained one vegan. But based on my own experiences the key variable is diet.

And from my n=1 study I would have to suggest that a raw vegan diet for LONG TERM use is not suitable for general health, fat loss, or muscle gain.

Side note - I love my vegetables, however I just let the animals do all the chewing for me :P

What a crock of shit.

Satanic bullshit.

The fact is a vegan diet cures many diseases, lifts the spirit and is excellent for the BODY.

We are not supposed to torture animals and eat them.

Tell that story to your children.

I'm pretty sure there aren't too many childrens books
detailing the way you fucks kill animals, abuse animals,
poison torture and sell them and also market them.

You fucks are outta control and so heartless.

You need a compassion work out.

Obviously you are failing with that, this thread
is the evidence.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 56507882

Why would I make something like this up. I personally don't give a rats ass what people eat or believe in. I'm just telling you what I see.
And I know based on experience in my industry for people to achieve their goals as a power lifter or bodybuilder they are going to have more chance succeeding by consuming animal products.
Yes I know there are vegan athletes out there, but I am certain that the best athletes in all the strength sports are meat eaters. That is the angle I am coming from.

Regarding the health side of things, I value my health alot more than most. I spend alot of money and time on my food and nutrition. I personally prepare about 95% of all the meals I eat. If i eat out it is only very simple foods.

You could not pay me to eat some grain fed hormone filled beef from a factory. I only eat meat from farmers I know. I know for a fact that they are treated kindly, fed well with plenty of grass and when they are killed it is in the most humane way possible with no stress to the animal (as I know this affects meat quality), my diary comes from an organic farm where cows are only milked once a day, and my eggs are from free range happy chickens. I eat plenty of organic veges and often treat myself to vegan desserts. I eat alot of fermented foods, bone broths, and organ meats, but once again it is only the best quality food.

I grew up on a farm and I have pets. My priority is health and to succeed in my sports. At the moment I am achieving both while eating meat and diary. I'm not hating on vegans, I'm just telling you what I observe.

Went vegetarian for spiritual reasons and noticed that as soon as meat and its vibrations were out of my system I
could think more clearly was more compassionate and loving.
Had none of these feelings when eating meat and chicken
I was very selfish, competitive and if challenged or
threatened became aggressive, a very unconscious person
so I can see why if you challenge anyone about their eating habits they are not going to think and feel the same way as you do, so vegans stop wasting your time trying to convert people who are not ready to change, they just cant, their
vibrations are different YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT. Instead
change yourself from within and shine your light and
people will come to you when ready, I never tell anyone
I am vegan or veggie it just leads to arguments from meat eaters who feel threatened because you can live without meat and they go on the attack to justify their habits
I just say I am on a special diet to lose weight and they
shut up.

I am now basically raw vegan (occasional bee pollen and
local raw honey if I need it) and full of energy. I put
on weight because I was nutrient deficient and adding
too much sea salt on my meals. Felt better by adding
sea weed, maca, goji berries, coconut and cacao butter,
hemp leaf (grow my own thc free), eating weeds from garden
and foraging berries and collecting local spring water (free food lol), spirulina, flax seeds. I make raw
chocolate using cashew nut butter, cacao butter and
cacao powder with lucuma powder for sweet flavour.
Remove foods that cause inflammation in your body usually
cooked grains, dairy and sugar. Sprout mung beans,
buckwheat, wheat grass, sunflower seeds. Add kimchi
raw coconut yogurt and fermented foods to your diet.
My best day ever food - raw cacao bean, wrapped in a fresh hemp leaf dipped in honey - it makes your brain buzz with nutrients and alive.

POL POT WAS A STRICT VEGAN

Pol Pot was born in Prek Sbauv in Kampong Thum Province to a rather wealthy family. His sister Roeung was a concubine of the king, so he often visited the royal palace. In 1942, he failed the admission exams for Lycee Sisowath (a top school) and instead attended the Preah Sihanouk college at Kompong Cham

MANSON - GRANDPA VEGAN

"There is NO COMPROMISE when it comes to saving ATWA," this message reads, adding without a hint of irony that ATWA is "a holy war. You are either working for ATWA - life - or you're working for death."(ATWA = Air, Trees, Water, Animals)

Vegan for over 20 years. I was a raw foodist for years too. I felt better eating totally clean.

Reading the comments about vegans on here is laughable. The human conditioning is far worse than I had imagined.

Part of me wants to get into it over plant vs. animal protein, but then that's like trying to convince a Christian that the Earth is older than 6K.

There are no secrets. If people want to know, the information is out there. Time to wake up folks. The fear is about to end.

Re: The Vegans ... are you one
This is a great subject but why so much negativity? What a person eats is their own decision. Any why are there so many people with the name of anonymous coward? It's a bit childish, don't you think?

Anyhow here are the results of my becoming a vegan. For many years I had very bad acid reflux. I did some research and found it that it was caused by acidic foods. The first thing I did was remove meat and dairy. That took care of that problem. I also was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and oste-arthritis. I read a book called The New Arthritis Cure by Bruce Fife. It told how to *cure* arthritis and fibromyalgia permanently. Most people don't realize that there is a cure. Just like there are cures for diabetes....this is no different. The trillion dollar pharmaceutical does not people to be cured by nutrients in our food, they want to give us a pill to just cover up the symptoms. But....there is a natural cure out there for every illness/disease.
So back to the book. The two most important things that the book recommends is a whole food plant based diet and coconut oil as a supplement. It has worked wonderfully. I am pain free! There was a point before I found the book where for a period of about 6 months, I could barely get up of the sofa. The pain was very bad. I can't believe what a difference it has made in my life.
Some people seem to think being a vegan is extreme. Well isn't getting your chest sliced open, you ribs broken and surgery performed on your heart much more extreme? Veganism has been proved to reverse heart disease. It has helped in the curing of many illness and diseases. I forgot to mention since going vegan my blood pressure and cholesterol are much lower!
With all that said, I don't judge people who still want to eat meat because they have free will and it's their choice. They should however become aware of the effects it has on our environment and then do what they think is right. :)
Namaste and Blessings.

You want to know what your stance on slavery would have been, look no further than your support of factory farms. People are downright blind to the plight of these animals and the diseases spread by their mistreatment (and you idiots who like to go on about e.coli and salmonella being found in produce should dig a little deeper- manure and runoff from enslaved animals are the root cause). Accounts of The Great Separation exist in every culture and religion- man once lived in harmony with animals and made a pact not to eat them unless needed for his own survival. Your body may need meat- but not three times a day, and most likely not even more than once a week. If you can't kill your own meat, and more to the point- if you can't control yourself from gorging on it, you shouldn't eat it. Stop making the rest of us sick!

I put on weight because I was nutrient deficient -

On a vegan diet eating pesticide, insecticide and chemically laden foods ie not organic, I put weight on cos
I had to eat larger quantities of conventionally grown food
to try and get some more nutrients in but it didnt work.
The fruit, veggies, grains, seeds and nuts were nutrient
deficient cos the minerals were not in the soil to start with, so not in the foods. NPK fertilisers sprayed onto veggies etc prevents the plant from uptaking any minerals that are in the soil only absorb the vitamins.
Cooking food depletes the minerals and vitamins available.

I only ever feel nourished and healthy when eating raw
veggies, fruits, nuts and seeds. I had juices and smoothies every day to build up my levels, ate weeds from my garden and foraged wild berries etc. As much organic food as I could afford.

Cooked carbs and oils left me bloated causing inflammation in my system.

14 days on raw juices, salads, fruits, nuts and seeds along with spring water proved it - I lost weight and that puffy face and bloated body look vanished, it was so obvious.

All the carb laden, salty, sugary and processed vegan food
made me feel depressed and lethargic, all the chemical stuff affects the brain. You only notice it when you give it up and eat clean food. Energy levels are high on low fat raw vegan foods.

I eat superfoods - maca, spirulina, goji berries, medicinal mushrooms, wheat grass powder, lucuma, raw cacao, probiotics, fermented cabbage, hemp seeds, coconut oil, etc etc just to feed my body what its missing.

Vegans are a group of sick fucked in the head folks.

At least I have the decency to make sure that my food is dead before I eat it.

Not the vegans though...they love listening to their vegetables scream in pain with every bite.

 Quoting: Dr. Ben Schillen

Haha this is the WORST and most dishonest argument against being a vegan.

Explain fruit.

Vegan is a healthier lifestyle that benefits the earth, animals and people.

If someone is passionately against being vegan you know they have a guilty conscience or no conscience at all. Why would anyone care if another person only eats plants unless they have some serious personal issues they havent dealt with?

Veganism will be the way of the future for many reasons.
