I'm part Native American...we thank the Great Spirit for our food and we thank the animal for giving his life so we may live.

This was the lesson in the story of Cain and Abel.

Abel knew the incredible sacrifice it is to raise animals and slaughter them so that his family could eat. This is why God blessed him. For understanding that sacrifices are difficult and are not to be taken for granted.

Cain was too ignorant to understand this, so he slaughtered his brother out of hate and jealousy.
