Cops with Drug sniffing dogs destroy car at airport and find......

Wow. Thats infuriating! I hope they go to the media. This is outrageous.

The dogs are not supposed to be that stupid. They had to have been poorly trained and I bet a $50 the cops are not going to pay him jack for this damage.

I did a search and could not find a story written on this event--I believe it happened within the last 2 weeks.

It would have made the cops look bad if it had been on the news.

Surprisingly the man was not really upset, and was glad the police were doing their job keeping the Airport safe.

Still, wouldn't be something I would even think was possible when leaving my car at the airport.

Dogs are not stupid, only handled wrong. I'm guessing the officers with the dogs were not trained or handling it properly.

I wonder if this has happened elsewhere?

Seems pretty common for animals to seek the warmth of a warm car engine.

You would think they'd be more concerned about what's going through the airport.

The Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that police cannot bring drug-sniffing police dogs onto a suspect's property to look for evidence without first getting a warrant for a search,

a decision which may limit how investigators use dogs' sensitive noses to search out drugs, explosives and other items hidden from human sight, sound and smell.

The high court split 5-4 on the decision to uphold the Florida Supreme Court's ruling throwing out evidence seized in the search of Joelis Jardines' Miami-area house. That search was based on an alert by Franky the drug dog from outside the closed front door.

Justice Antonin Scalia said a person has the Fourth Amendment right to be free from the government's gaze inside their home and in the area surrounding it, which is called the curtilage.

"The police cannot, without a warrant based on probable cause, hang around on the lawn or in the side garden, trawling for evidence and perhaps peering into the windows of the home," Justice Antonin Scalia said for the majority. "And the officers here had all four of their feet and all four of their companion's, planted firmly on that curtilage -- the front porch is the classic example of an area intimately associated with the life of the home."

Sometimes they get it right--

VERMILION, Ohio -- Sealed plastic bags, insulation and mustard didn't hide 9 pounds of marijuana from two drug-sniffing dogs.

A package mailed in San Jose, Calif., to a home in Vermilion was intercepted Saturday at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, where a police dog alerted officers to the smell of marijuana.

Vermilion police were notified and the package was sent to the Vermilion Post Office, where another police dog detected drugs.

Yep, when I was a kid in the 80's. My neighbour went out on a cold winter morning. As he turned the engine over. He heard a weird squeal. It turned out to be his cat that found refuge in his warm motor's compartment over night.

Glad you mentioned that. Someone had a You Tube here about an airport security dog. Think it was Canada? Watching them, I wondered too. The dog looked like he was a "for show" dog, to make people think they were doing something. The handler looked the same. A good working K 9 and partner are tuned in to each other and you can see it. That dog and handler weren't.

Doubt the dog was stupid, but seriously doubt that he or the handler were very well trained.

The latest university study on K9's shows they are LESS ACCURATE THAN A COIN FLIP.

Those dunces might as well walk around the airport with a coin and they would have greater success.

The dogs don't rip up seats. Their nails are trimmed short to prevent excessive mauling; teeth are enough.

I've witnessed dogs searching cars. They paw at seats if they smell something, then look over to the handler, who then cuts open the cushions.

I'm still surprised they broke a window to gain access. I thought they had a tool to unlock doors.

I'm surprised they didn't charge him with harboring a raccoon without a license.

There's a great video on youtube by an ex cop called never get busted again.

One of the things he said was a dog's brain can seperate smells. Like when we smell stew cooking a dog smells all the ingredients of the stew.

It doesn't take more than a couple molecules for a dog to pick up scent. Nothing is sealed well enough to keep a well trained dog from finding it. Even glass has tiny pores that allow scent thru.
