New movies do suck. It's no secret. Movies used to have a meaning. They don't mean shit but asses in the seats, or should I say suckers in the seats.

holywood is so artificial that the old movies suck a lot...too artificial ..no real story telling

Someone mentioned soul a few posts ago. It's true. When you commercialize everything, everything starts to look and feel plastic. The entertainment industry is now more than ever driven by money. Creativity goes out the window and what you're left with are movies and music that seems soulless. There are a few exceptions though: stuff made by cable networks is still pretty good.

You're right in that commercialization tends to compromise creativity. However, the arts were always about making money too, because one needs money to live. Or do you think the Renaissance painters just REALLY wanted to do oil portraits of aristocrats for fun?

It takes a lot of money to make a film, and the creative people don't generally gave that money. Compromises must be made, or nothing would get made at all.

Investors who want a definite return do not want directors taking any chances at all.

It feels like we're going back to 1998 or so when the dialogue was terrible! Movies were so bad around the time The Titanic came out. I'm noticing this also and TV miniseries seem to be improving.
