Why does a shitty song start playing when I open this thread?

Something to do with liveleak, I am going to edit it now to try and stop it.

This health company plans to monitor space tourists health and vital signs .

Average citizens are poised to travel into space in significant numbers in the coming years. But unlike super-fit astronauts, space tourists suffer from a full range of health problems. How will they fare? Will pacemakers and other medical devices work in zero gravity? Will medications cause unusual reactions?

Looks like other people are concerned about the problem.

When you look at how much energy and materials it takes to get 3 people into Earth orbit I don't think anything other than a minuscule proportion of Earth's population would ever be able to leave.

A timely bump to this thread. The rocket scientist is Dr Adam Baker who was until four years ago the general manager of Virgin Galactic.

I wonder as you said in your original post, if today's crash will mean the failure of space tourisme. Great prediction.

A french space expert interviewed on BFMtv, said space tourisme is "obscene" because of the cost and the amount of fossil fuels used for something so trivial that only a few people can experience, when there are so many disasters in the world that could be better served by the money.

I think Adam Baker was thinking more about a crash with celebrities and billionaires on board. We will have to see what effect it has on the programme.

On your second point, the super rich will always find extravagant ways to spend their money, that has always been the case and probably always will.
