Utah Pedophile Bus Driver Walks Free for MONTHS After Being Caught on Tape Molesting Special Needs Kindergartener

This story is absolutely infuriating, and a direct reflection of how pedophiles are coddled in our society.

This bus driver operated a bus full of special needs children and molested a special needs kindergarten-aged girl repeatedly over several months.

This story broke over a month ago locally, the parents had known longer than that and it appears that the school may have known even longer.

For all intents and purposes, it appears that this guy was caught on tape repeatedly molesting this girl (there are surveillance cameras on the bus) the earliest known case back in February. His inappropriate touching was apparent and graphic.

There have been multiple reports on this story, and it appears that the little girl communicated the abuse to her father and when he went to the school with allegations it appeared that they were already investigating it, but that the bus driver was still operating the bus, and the parents hadn't even been informed by anyone in authority.

The undertone of all of this is that the district was trying to gather more evidence, i.e., allowing the molestation of this girl to go on repeatedly, prior to compiling their case and filing charges.

Again, this is not really alleged abuse, this is abuse caught on tape.

The driver was suspended a few weeks ago, but his name was not made public - despite the fact that there was video taped evidence of him repeatedly assaulting this little girl - and only yesterday was he charged and his details made a matter of public record.

Despite having video taped evidence, they let this scum wander the streets for weeks, without releasing his name, putting the general public at increased risk - because he had already been suspended. He had to know that the axe was going to fall. It is when backed into these types of corners that these perverts generally commit their most heinous crimes.

As a parent and a resident of this state, I am completely appalled at the way this has been handled.

"SALT LAKE CITY — A former school bus driver for the Canyons School District was charged Thursday with 23 counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child.

For months, John Martin Carrell, 61, of Draper, sexually abused a 5-year-old girl with special needs whom he drove to and from school, police say. She was enrolled in a special education program at Altara Elementary School, 800 E. 11000 South.

The Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office believes all of the abuse happened after Carrell would pull into the school parking lot and stop the bus and before teachers came on to retrieve the children.

"What he would do, it's alleged, that he would make contact with her, he would remove the buckles on the other kids. It would take a very short period of time — three seconds. And then he would spend 20 to 30 seconds or more with this one other girl and what looked like he would block out of view him touching her," said Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill.

On April 22, the young girl — who rode on Carrell's bus two days a week — told her father that she would sit in the bus driver's seat while the vehicle was stopped and Carrell would inappropriately rub her, according to charging documents.

"She tried to talk to my husband about the situation on the bus. At first, he was really confused," the girl's mother told the KSL last week before the details of the alleged abuse had come out.

Sandy police were contacted and detectives went through three months of surveillance video from the bus recorded primarily from two cameras. No other adults were on the bus at the time of the alleged abuse.


The earliest incident of abuse was recorded on Feb. 20. In a video, Carrell is seen taking extra time undoing the young girl's seat belt and tries to block the view of the other children, according to the charges. Later, the girl is heard saying on the video, "You've been pulling my pants."
