I got creamed in SF in 2001 by an ambulance blowing a red light, no lights, no siren...radial fracture on the right femur, 5 broken ribs, both lungs collapsed, and a rib in one of them that took SF General a month to find. Oh, and a broken pinkie on the left hand that is still to this day broken.

Riding a donor cycle is a risk you take, especially in cities...had 3 years under my belt in SF and never saw that coming...very bike friendly. Those ribs still hurt anytime I sit in a wooden chair, and winter is fun with the arthritis for all this time.

There's two types of peeps who ride...those that fall and those that are going to. Congrats on your succession.

The reason I survived I know is that 1) I was young and 2) I knew I had to survive and that was my only goal in life.

I couldn't breathe and took my helmet off and saw the bottom of my boot facing me on my chest and thought my leg was cut off and just had to calm myself down because I thought if I stopped breathing I would die. Both lungs were collapsed so I couldn't breathe much, just shallow breathes.

Whatever.

I got a better bike and did a 9000 mile trip around our great nation in 2007-ish:

At 16, I hit a Deer at night on a motorcycle on a major highway (with no street lights at the time), fell in the fast lane, then the car following me, ran me over, dragged my bike 178 yards, caught on fire, then exploded from paint cans or something in the guy's trunk. (Guy and female passenger got out in time).

No more street bikes for me.

you are very lucky indeed my brother was killed in a m/c accident , but he was the passenger on the back the guy driving the bike was killed also , one of the hardest things i have ever had to go through. take care

the OP has a legit issue, I think it should go back to that and stop this soccer mom pulling out in front of ppl stuff and I am personally glad OP it OK...it happens to the best of us when we have to ride around, obeying traffic laws and then some dumb shit pulls out in front of us.

So, I survived a motorcycle accident..
Let me start with what lead up to the accident, then the injuries and then into why I believe I came out okay.

What lead up to it: I was coming up to a yellow light, sped through and broadsided a car. Nobody in the car was hurt
What happened was; the car was coming up to a red and then it changed to green. They already had momentum so off they went.
I hit their car at 55MPH. My bike was destroyed on impact and I destroyed the side of their car.

I was brought the hospital. Brain swelling and a broken arm was obvious. What took experts to check me out was a broken upper jaw, a broken nose, a shattered eye socket and they had to remove part of my skull to reduce the swelling.

Oh and I was in a coma for 5 days.

one of the reasons I got so lucky was I had a very big support group.my family my girlfriend and over 100 friends stop by periodically throughout the time I was in the hospital.
the doctors thought I was going to be a vegetable retarded or never be the same again.. I prove them wrong. they thought I was going to come out wrong because I had injured the left hemisphere of the brain. the left hemisphere of the brain controls motor function logic math emotions and memory. but like I said I came back with only one problem. That problem being that my right eye is 50% dimmer then it normally was. Considering that is all I have to deal with, I got lucky as fuck.

my girlfriend my family and my friends don't want me to riding a bike again. Honestly I can understand where they're coming from because I put them through a lot. They didn't know if I was going to die or become a vegetable. Even my girlfriend stay by my side the entire time. What's really cool is how she stayed by my side the entire time. We're only been dating for 4 months at the time. she could have up and left, instead she was by my bedside the entire time. She didn't even care if I would end up retarded or vegetable, she truly loves me for me.

all in all I was able to leave the hospital after only one month.my recovery was amazingly fast.

As for the NDE.. I remember seeing my purpose, water treatment and making a motorcycle safety invention. The invention idea was born 4 months before the accident. NOW I fl know I have to make it.
I also rember KNOWING thatb everything was going to be okay. In fact l, my dad and uncle took me to see the ICU nurse that was there for me and my family during the comma. Despite the doctors saying I'd be a vegetable.. She told my parents that v the doctor might be wrong. ANYWAYS, I had no recollection of her so I was not expecting to remember this random nurse out of the many I saw everyday. AS SOON AS I OPENED THE DOOR TO THE ICU, I recognized her immediately. She remembered me and we both started crying. It's not everyday that a patient that was in critical condition walls to a nurse without help. TO THIS DAY, I cry when I think of that nurse who WAS my guardian angel. She comforted my family when no one else did. She gave my family hope during a time of absolute uncertainty. I'll be going back to VMC hospital regularly to give thanks.

I will also be joining a traumatic brain injury support group to give back. I got too lucky to not take advantage of the b serving chance I was given

I had a dipshit pull out in front of me, once the dust settled I made up my mind that I was going to kill the woman who pulled out in front of me...and at the time I would have. Thankfully for her I had to be stopped by people because I was trying to get to her with my ankle hanging on by some skin and a leg broke in eight places.
