GIJGD User ID: 66461571 United States 04/01/2015 12:21 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Michael Horowitz ‏@michaelh992 3m3 minutes ago Quoting: JazzyG The IDF released pictures of its newest submarine #Israel [link to pbs.twimg.com (secure)] [link to pbs.twimg.com (secure)] [link to pbs.twimg.com (secure)] Pictures from the IDF like this are RARE. This is a MESSAGE. Jazz, is David's Sling operational now? David's Sling should be operational this year. Actually it should have been operational in 2012, along with equally important naval Barak-8 system but Israel is operating on a tight budget & very short time table. Yair Lapid the Leftist Finance Minister did all he could to cut IDF's budget, which hurt David's Sling. And "socio-economics" being such a popular word in Israel, Moshe Kahlon probably will stiff the army too. Priorities, priorities... LOL I think in the meantime, Iron Dome is being stretched to handle some heavy rockets while heavier ones will be handled by upgraded Patriot (Patriot is VERY expensive, though) Keep in mind that basically against Hezbollah David's Sling will have to be so critical in defending the country from Fateh-110 & Scuds. Those can destroy residential BUILDINGS in a single shot, imagine the horrific aftermath, Hezbollah has 1,000+ heavy missiles. This ain't going to be Gaza walk in the park. Likewise, Barak-8 will have to counter a deadly Russian cruise missile complex called "Bastion" or Onyx. Missiles themselves are called "Yakhont". Very, very difficult to intercept, if not impossible. But Barak-8 may pleasantly surprise, hopefully. Update: apparently David's Sling passed another test. Impressive if true. It's hard to be the first country making real break-through like that in missile-defense, especially on a relatively shoe-string budget & time-frame. Compare to the 50+ years & countless billions of dollars that even global giants like US and Russia/USSR spent on developing, testing, modifying, upgrading, modernizing systems like Patriot and the S-300. And they still failed a lot. Hell, a country like China with lots more resources, with the pool 1.5 billion genius-brain Chinese to draw their talent from... they had to buy half their Missile-def tech from Russia, and steal the other half from the US, hahaha. And China is STILL behind US-Russia-Israel in many aspects, think about that for a moment! Plus other handicap facing the Jewish State: being so tiny, it can't even properly test the equipment (no space, risk of hitting civilian aircraft, risk of hitting other countries aircraft, risk of missile landing into neighboring states, thereby triggering a war.... Not to mention considering Israel is under global microscope 24/7, any test would immediately give away military secrets). Anyway, did they say which Hezbollah missiles David Sling can now cope against? Because of budget delays, they said that it would be a skeletal system capabilities made operational first, so that it can deal with Zelzal-type rockets. And only later would full capability & range be completed. Or something along those lines. Now the thing is, David Sling was envisioned to deal with the world class missile like the Russian 'Iskander'. Even if it's referring to the lesser 'export' version of Iskander, that's still a hellaciously difficult missile to intercept. An ambitious undertaking. Any mention specifically? |

Interesting to see what the final series of test will involve. |

GIJGD User ID: 66341450 United States 04/01/2015 06:21 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Funny you mention it, Steve in light of today's Kela David news but it only further shows just how difficult the missile-shield project is. It's hard enough to secure financing, prove the theory, carry out computer modeling & simulations... then actually do field tests given Israel's unique challenges but after all this complicated, long process... REAL-WORLD battle conditions sometimes completely surprise you and it's back to the drawing board. But now thanks to Mr. Wonderful in Damascus leveling his own city blocks at time with barrel bombs & Scuds, Israel revamped its missile defense, LOL. So let's all thank the Chinless Wonder for being a gift that just keeps on giving Ballistic defence simulation courtesy of the Syrian regime [link to www.flightglobal.com] "...Col Aviram Hasson, the head of the higher tier department in the Israeli missile defence organisation, says the Syrian regime “gave us a treasure ” of information about the way the surface-to-surface missiles are being prepared for launch and about their flight to the target.”We have completely changed the Arrow anti ballistic [missile] system following this information we gathered.” The operational Arrow 2 is being upgraded constantly, but the real-time data gathered by “staring” into Syria has made possible a more precise and accelerated process." |
GIJGD User ID: 66341450 United States 04/01/2015 06:27 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Now it's fair to mention that Scuds though they are upgraded to modern guidance in some case by Iran & Russia... Scuds are still fairly old Soviet technology. Devastatingly destructive if they happen to hit a residential building or a power station, mind you... but still not exactly the most accurate or evasive in terms of quasi-ballistic trajectory (unlike the lethal Iskander, for example) Still David's Sling along with Barak-8 represent a QUALITATIVE leap. To neutralize Iskander and Yakhont, respectively, is a game-changer (I hate that overused term, ahaha) Stretched out Arrow-2 and Arrow-3 are next in line to iron out the kinks. On the other hand, Iron Beam and Blue Shield are supposed to deal with very short range threat preferred by Hamas (mortars problematic for Iron Dome) |
