Flower Said to Bloom Once in 3,000 Years Spotted Across Globe some say it heralds the coming of a great sage or enlightened being.
Flower Said to Bloom Once in 3,000 Years Spotted Across Globe

The udumbara flower is said in Buddhist legend to bloom only once every 3,000 years, the last time being before the birth of Buddha. Spotted again across the world in the past 20 years or so, some say the udumbara could herald the coming of a great sage or enlightened being.

Udumbara is a word from the ancient Indian language, Sanskrit, meaning “an auspicious flower from heaven.”

According to Buddhist legend, its appearance heralds the arrival of the Holy King Who Turns the Wheel, rectifying the Dharma in the world. This King is said to accept anyone of any religious affiliation, offering salvation to all through compassion.

Volume 8 of the Buddhist scripture “Huilin Phonetics and Interpretation” states: “The udumbara flower is the product of propitious and supernatural phenomena; it is a celestial flower and does not exist in the mundane world. If a Tathagata or the King of the Golden Wheel appears in the human world, this flower will appear due to his great virtue and blessings.”

Nice find AKO....many tks.

In the vid I wish he explained how the flower grows on cars buildings etc. Unless he meant it appears as a painting on the objects.

hmmm.....more research needed.

Look at :31 in the vid, it shows the 'flowers' growing from various objects, without the need for soil.

That's amazing!!! I wonder what will happen?

It must be an air plant. Cool to see growing :-)

An epiphyte is a plant that grows non-parasitically upon another plant (such as a tree), and derives its moisture and nutrients from the air, rain, and sometimes from debris accumulating around it instead of the structure it is fastened to. An epiphytic organism that is not a plant is not called an epiphyte.

Edit to add we grew ours on a wall :-)

Re: Flower Said to Bloom Once in 3,000 Years Spotted Across Globe some say it heralds the coming of a great sage or enlightened being.
here's some more info

A Minghui correspondent has reported that blooming Udumbara flowers were found in the northern California city of Fremont on August 8, 2007. According to legend, this flower blossoms once every 3,000 years. This is the first North American sighting after they were spotted in Korea, Australia, Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.

"Udumbara is the product of ominous and supernatural phenomena; it is a celestial flower and does not exist in the mundane world. If a Tathagata or King of the Golden Wheel appears in the human world, this flower will manifest due to their great virtue and blessings."

"King of the Golden Wheel appears in the human world" is interpreted as "Holy King Who Turns the Wheel, rectifying the Dharma in the world, for which the appearance of Udumbara blossoms is a sign."

According to Buddhist scriptures, like a Buddha, the Holy King Who Turns the Wheel has 32 manifestations and seven treasures. He is an ideal king who turns the Wheel that rectifies the Dharma, not through force but through justice in order to rule the world. Regardless of one's religious affiliation--Buddhism, Christianity or Confucianism--anyone who offers compassion to people will have the opportunity to meet the Holy King Who Turns the Wheel.

The Prajna Paramita (or The Great Perfection of Wisdom) Sutra says, "One cannot always keep the human body; wealth is but a dream; when nothing is lacking, it is difficult to persist in a righteous belief. When a Tathagata talks of the profound and wonderful Dharma, isn't it as precious and rare as the Udumbara?"

The excepting of all would be containing those who are not able within your field upon death and assist them in the rebirth process (conscious rebirth), an honor I would say.

Compassion upon a moral evaluation.

Looks like some kind of fungi rather than a flower.

as per the link you've posted:

Uumbara tree; also known as "strangling figs"

"In Vedic literature, fig trees often represent talismans with the udumbara fig tree having been deemed the "lord of amulets"

The udumbara tree is one of several trees known as "strangling figs" due to their often developing as seeds dropped on the branches of a host tree (by animals eating the fig tree's fruit) and, as the branch-borne fig tree grows, it envelops its host tree with its own roots and branches, at times crushing and replacing the host tree.

Based on this life cycle, the Mahārukkha Sutta likens "sensual pleasures" (kāma) to such fig trees, causing their human hosts to become "bent, twisted, and split"

this being the final generation, the generation of the Fig Tree, makes this seem most fitting in all regard in truth...
