You can do whatever you set your mind to do- just remember every bit of what brought you to this moment as you will need to draw on it in order to truly make the change meaningful and to make a difference in other people's lives.

God bless you and do not let anyone get you to start second-guessing your decision.

At day 5 you are well past the threshold and into the just plain grueling time.

You have already made it past the time when the serious seizures would have gone into effect, and now you are into just a plain rough stretch.

Showers, soaking or sponge baths, lots of water to hydrate, light food every few hours, keep the room cool, lighting dim.

This is just a rough stretch. Withdrawals should not be getting any more acute. But you can be feeling worn down from interrupted sleep, aches, flulike symptoms.

In many ways, the "real" worst is over, but this can feel very bad just because you are weary.

Every few hours, though, you should start feeling lighter periods of relief from symptoms, and something starting to feel like short glimpses of relief.

Words for today: This is rough but doable. I have already passed one hellacious threshold and am in for a weary grind for maybe 72 more hours. But glimpses of relief and wellbeing will start let me get a sense of getting over this hump. I am over this hump, but I am just tired of getting over humps.

Let this just pass.

This too shall pass.

Re: I've made a decision that is going to change my life and I hope the lives of others! I'll need all the strength I can muster.
Guitarguy55, as a fellow chronic pain sufferer, I whole-heartedly admire and support your decision to get off meds (as much as you can and as safely as possible).

I was in so much pain, and finally my pain dr. asked why are we doing this? After 2 weeks of thinking about this question, I weaned myself off morphine, oxycontin, and 3 different muscle relaxers. I 2as taking 22 pills a day.

Within 2 months, I was off all of them. I can tell you, have someone you trust with you or who you can call at any time, day or night. You may have delusions or hallucinations (mine were very mild and only lasted about 36 hours (oxy & morphine). Keep repeating to yourself the mind is more powerful than the body, this will past soon, and my body is adjusting back 5o normal. Words are powerful!

Best to you. Keep hydrated with good clean water and gatorade. This helps flush the pain meds out. Keep posting here if you need any help!

Delusions and hallucinations usually come from stopping the muscle relaxants, tramadol is noted for them.

Useful supplement:

[link to www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Acetyl-L-carnitine acted as an effective antihyperalgesic agent for relieving opiate-withdrawal hyperalgesia in animals and displayed clinical efficacy on other withdrawal symptoms such as muscular tension, muscular cramps, and insomnia. Considering its tolerability, the excellent side effect profile, the absence of significant interactions, and the lack of abuse potential, ALC can be considered as a useful pharmacological adjunct in the treatment of opiate withdrawal.

also, kratom helps with the pain and has a very calming effect. for night time use phenibut but be very careful because it is some strong stuff. kratom and phenibut are legal in most states. both take away anxiety and have a very calming effect. please try these products if you are having any kind of withdrawls....peace and prayers

Re: I've made a decision that is going to change my life and I hope the lives of others! I'll need all the strength I can muster.
GG, you can help your recovery by purposefully staying oriented to a routine of

Morning

Afternoon

Evening

Night

EVEN WHEN your days and nights start to get confused. That is when it is most important!

Set yourself a time to get up, a time for an afternoon rest period, some evening activity, and then quiet time -- even if you do not get uninterrupted sleep.

Get up, put on loose daytime clothes, and consider yourself "up" for daytime. Designate an afternoon nap time. Then make evening a time for some more light activity.

Make sleep time quiet. If you are restless and troubled during sleep time, keep the room darkened nonetheless and put on some classical or christian music to help the mind.

Don't let your days and nights get all confused!

You may be tempted to let yourself just lay around and muddle though without regard to daytime or nighttime.

But recovery is all about training the newly awakened mind into a healthy disciple of wholesome activity and focus.

The mind will have a read tendency to digest and 'latch onto' the input you are taking in right now, whether through music, reading, television etc. Do not underestimate this, and keep yourself a good stock of uplifting books, correspondence, videos and music available.

Avoid "troubling"-type stimulous such as modern music that focuses on sex, drugs, or conflict. Avoid most television, but some light nature or travel videos can be a benign distraction.

Treat your newly awakened feelings and conciousness like a vulnerable child, and mentor yourself with uplifting influences.

I thought I would come by and see how you are doing, Guitarguy. You should be feeling better by now, right. Looking at the people who have come by with support for you, I'd say that you have some powerful pray-ers praying for you.

Here's a couple more things to add to Mockingbird's good sound suggestions.

As the creepy crawlies fade into the past, you might still experience awesome legs spasms at night in bed. Sometimes strong enough to practically knock you out of bed. Quinine water (club soda) helps many people with this. Not a whole bottle, just a small glass. Potassium tablets or potassion rich food like bananas and cantelope throughout the day are also helpful to get your electrolites back in balance. Some people do the sports drinks. A bath at night with Epson salts will help renew your magnesium in a natural time tested way.

Also, some people start to have nightmares and/or fear of the dark after they have been clean a while. You can help this by keeping a night light on and keeping some spiritual type reading at your bedside. Some people memorize a little prayer or phrase to say when this happens. If anybody asks about the nightlight, you can say you don't want to stub your toe, or something like that.

Put good healthy food in your stomach, put good healthy stuff into your brain too.

We're praying for you. You can do it!
