Should I Stay or Should I Go?

I would pick NY anyday over CA...what does that tell ya...but that's just my opinion. You have to live with the choices you make...and you do have a good paying job...so...that's a tough one...

I can personally see the benefits of staying in that area, but at this particular time in history I would never move there willingly.

if you have the chance try to find a more quiet area shoot for it.. rent would probably be cheaper too

I'd make sure you have another job before you leave.

however both cities will be jam-packed with starving families out of food once there's no petroleum to power the trucks importing fresh groceries

NY would still leave us trapped in an urban environment when the SFTF. We are thinking of maybe going to Florida for an early retirement.

Well paying jobs don't grow on trees you know. If you have a place to go then make sure that your gas tank is 8/10ths full and stay alert. If you have 3 or 4 hours head start on the masses you should be OK. But be sure to have some mountain bikes, you never know the freeways might be down.

But wherever you go there will be serious problems.

I am not from NY city...Western NY anyway...jobs are scarce here but if you have a great resume. I like the suggestion of what the other poster said. Maybe pic a place that you want to go and see if you can find a job first.

I have lived in FL...and screw that. Cape Coral FL to be exact. FL is full of criminals and drugs. Good place to visit. Not live. I live there for almost 4 years...and my home got broken into. My car. I did not live in a bad area either. Was paying over a thousand a month in rent. If you have the money...then you can rent a very nice house. Rent is high there...but either way the drugs are everywhere.

Just because I live in CA does not make me a liberal. I hate what has happened to this state as much as I hate what has happened to this country.

it sounds like you need to leave your current home either way, so listen to your gut and do what you feel is best because nobody here really knows everything about your situation.

Is the SHTF imminent enough to give up a well paying job to get the heck out of CA?

Putting into consideration that you have a well-paying job, there is some legitimate property with a decent amount of acreage in western Palm Beach County but urban development is through the roof now, and if this type of lifestyle interests you in any shape or form, a decision must be quickly made before all of the Ag Reserve is paved out.

Seriously, what are your thought processes as New York is as bad as California and our retirement plans are to dump the communist state of New York for a more freedom conscious state as New York sucks.

Well in that case, that would apply to South Florida too. The entire Eastern Seaboard is at high risk from an eruption at the La Palma volcano, which isn't necessarily imminent but definitely inevitable and quite overdue. The entire state is a literal flatland, and tsunami waves could reach many miles inland but I wouldn't worry about that now. Try to choose between what YOU think best suits your ideal location and put the home prices into consideration, even if you think you can afford a lot.

This, ^^. The Dakotas are sparsely populated and spread out, affordable acreage, affordable home prices, hear a lot about hospitable locales. I could speak with experience about Tennessee, some of the friendliest people I've ever met, somewhat conservative values, attractive scenery and of course affordable prices. It's the wintertime that makes one want to shy away from retirement in, say, North Dakota and South Dakota as well. Shove that aside and these three states are great picks.

My wife seems to like Tennessee. Apparently houses are much more affordable there. Is that because people are poor there, or is it a good place to live?

Tennessee and then get yourself a Tennessee walking horse and live up your retirement.
