do y'all covertly shop?
I do, make grocery trips and sneak it in without the neighbors seeing me.

Re: Being Prepared - Updated Basic Food List On Page One
If you prep by stocking up on supplies for bodily needs, how do you know how much you'll need for the rest of your life if you don't know how long you are to live? What if you stock up for month, something happens so you are covered for that long, but what then? What if after you run out of your supplies your life is not over, yet situation is still the same and nowhere to get more supplies? I think one would need to know their date of death, like they know their date of birth (what they were told) to know how much they will need exactly for how long.

Preps are only to get by in the beginning. One should be learning how to make a fire, hunt with a bow & traps, preserve food, grow food, etc NOW. Books are great but you can't carry them all in a bug out scenario. Knowledge is power. Knowledge of how to live like they did in the early 1800's is best. Guns are great but ammo runs out. Learn to use a bow which is also silent!

Some air guns can be very deadly.....lots of power behind them!

Also, for illumination during the dark, dark nights, I'm depending on my solar lights around my garden.

CHEAP and efficient. All I have to do is put them out all day so they recharge, and they light things up inside at night! NO matches needed, no batteries to run out of, etc.

AND - they don't look like anything.....they're just OUT THERE during the day.

"Hiding in plain sight."

Dont forget about the 30-40 gallons of water in your hot water heaters. The have drain knobs at the bottom. If its downstairs and you open the facets upstairs much of the water in the lines will also drain.

Re: Being Prepared - Updated Basic Food List On Page One
GRAINS
50 lbs of Rice
300 lbs total of Grains

LEGUMES
5 lbs of Lentils

60 lbs Total of Legumes
FATS & OILS
2 gals Vegetable Oil

25 lbs Total of Fats & Oils

MILK & DAIRY
12 cans of Evaporated Milk

75 lbs Total of Milk & Dairy

SUGARS
3 lbs of Honey
40 lbs of Sugar
3 lbs of Brown Sugar
3 lbs of Jams & Jelly

60lbs Total of Sugars

COOKING ESSENTIALS
1 lb of Baking Powder (I don't store for LTS as it doesn't have a long shelf life, 6 months to 18 months only.)

1 lb of Baking Soda (this needs more also for cleaning, brushing teeth, as a deodorant, lots of uses)
5 lbs of Salt (You need iodized and plain or canning salt for canning and preserving meats - so plan on more - 20lbs)

0.5 lbs of Vinegar (I think this needs increased to 1-2 gallons per person for canning and cleaning. You also need several gallons of apple cider vinegar - like Braggs which is unprocessed and has what they call the mother. You will use this to make elixirs for flu and colds)

Black pepper (whole lasts indefinitely, just remember a pepper grinder)
Onion/Garlic Powder
Chili Powder
Cream of Tartar
Corn Starch

To make 1 tablespoon of baking powder:
2 teaspoon of cream of tarter (shelf life = indefinite)
1 teaspoon of baking soda (shelf life = indefinite)

FRUITS
40 lbs of Apples (canned or dried)
40 lbs of Applesauce
30 lbs of Banana Chips
35 lbs of Fruit Mixture
40 lbs of Fruit Juice

185 lbs Total of Fruits

VEGETABLES
30 lbs of Carrots
40 lbs of Potatoes
20 lbs of Tomatoes

185 lbs Total of Vegetables

WATER
30 gals of Water (one month supply, more if you have room. This is only for drinking and cooking)
1 gal of bleach (shelf life is only 6 months to one year)
1-pound bag of calcium hypochlorite would work better than liquid bleach for long term storage.

Alaska is the only place to get away these days.
 Quoting: nikki nikita

There are places in the American west where the closest neighbor is miles away. Unfortunately I can see several houses from where I am. I will be moving, permanently, to my bug out location. If there were no trees, I think there would be a couple of houses within sight. With the trees, you can drive right by my driveway (about a quarter mile) and not see any signs of a building. There are two streams, fed by natural springs, on site. There are three orchards, and lots of room for the dairy goats and poultry. Lots of room for gardens, even without the corn fields. The only place where it can be seen is from my in-laws feed lot. I think I can get away. The only draw back is the internet access is by satellite. The down links are great, but up links can be a bit slow.
Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

If they "devolve" to the point of looking for preps in my house, it will certainly be the grave. I have little patients with people that think they are entitled, to begin with. I have no patients with people that think they will take my preps.

Sort of off-topic, but a help to build up your body to fight ebola or other diseases that may be unleashed upon us.

Want to throw this out there for your fight in making your body stronger to fight better against Ebola. Olive Leaf extract. Look it up and do some research. It even helps fight or cure malaria. It is a major immune booster and this is what you will need if Ebola claims a major foot hold in the 1st world countries.

After my surgery on the 26th, the pain was manageable after 5 days but I felt sick and was sleeping all the time. On the 3rd I started Olive Leaf extract and yesterday I was almost back to normal. Woke up great this morning. I am totally amazed at how well this thing works. You can bet I will be stocking up on this!!!

Here is a link to start your research on:

[link to www.herbwisdom.com]

*snip
From research and clinical experience to date, we can say that supplemental olive leaf may be beneficial in the treatment for conditions caused by, or associated with, a virus, retrovirus, bacterium or protozoan. Among those treatable conditions are: influenza, the common cold, candida infections, meningitis, Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), encephalitis, herpes I and II, human herpes virus 6 and 7, shingles (Herpes zoster), HIV/ARC/AIDS, chronic fatigue, hepatitis B, pneumonia, tuberculosis, gonorrhea, malaria, dengue, severe diarrhea, and dental, ear, urinary tract and surgical infections.

Many people who live stressful lives or who may be particularly susceptible to colds and viruses may benefit from long-term use of olive leaf as a preventive agent. Some patients have expressed other unexpected benefits of olive leaf, including improved psoriasis, normalisation of heart beat irregularities, diminished cravings, less pain from hemorrhoids, toothaches and chronically achy joints.
==============

My note, do read about it causing detoxification or die-off symptoms. This has happened with me, which only proves I was pretty toxic after all the "modern" drugs that were pumped into my body.
 Quoting: whiteangel

This is a good deal for Olive Leaf Extract, I've used this a lot and I do try to keep it on hand for sure:

Unfortunately, I will be going down the hill to be where I need to be. You can't grow much here, the ground isn't very fertile, and it's too dry. My bug out location is surrounded by some of the best farm land in America. I can feed all the animals without having to depend on the feed store. More importantly, the water bubbles up out of the ground and makes streams that run through the property. It forms two lakes, with fish. For SHTF scenarios, it doesn't get any better.
