The south made so many idiotic mistakes: they should have freed the slaves and succeeded. They should never have stopped selling their cotton to other countries. |

The US civil war was a proxy for the trade war between France and England. The blockade stopped their trade, they money dried up and they lost the war. It wasn't a choice, but you have to look at the bigger picture to see why. |
