It is a cool little gadget, but this is one of those moments in time where if you don't keep up with a new technology you will be at a disadvantage in regards to safety and security.

In few years it'll be just part of your phone. Then the gov can log in and scan your home for goodies.

I was reading about this a while back. But that was before they announced the price...

Its an interesting lil piece of technology and im kinda excited about it... its on my ever growing wish list lol

I don't have an iPhone, but am for the first time, considering getting one, just for this piece of tech.

(I'll finally know what is creeping out in my woods at night!)

is an instrument that is meant to measure heat leaks in the house really the same thing as a camera that will detect movement from 100 yards away?

I love this. I hope they will make a case for Android phones.

I got an Iphone 4s

got it "free" via a 2 year contract with AT&T... by the time my contract is up... I can sign up again and get a "free" Iphone 5

Hmm, I might need one to help me guard my scope. Had a homeless bum come up on me out of nowhere last time I "went remote," scared me shitless. My current solution has been to purchase a motion sensor that will deafen anything within a 100 meter radius if anything approaches me from behind. But of course that can't the difference between a cat and a human.

That's actually pretty cool. I've always wanted a thermal imaging camera but they're so damn expensive. Can't believe this is only gonna be 350 bucks.

If I remember correctly, Sony had a camcorder that when set to night vision could see through most light clothing at the beach!

Needless to say, that model sold out long ago!

That would depend on the quality of the camera. If the thermal sensitivity is high enough, you could detect things over a long distance.

I guess we really won't know the true capabilities of this camera until it hits the market.

The cheapest FLIR scout costs somewhere around 3000$, how did they make this thing so cheap? I wonder what the quality will be.

The FLIR E4 is about $900 ish these days...

Using the already existing iphone processor... and FLIR app... all FLIR is selling you is a little "Camera" and a case with a built in battery...

the Iphone puts up the slack on the rest... screen, processor... etc...

youre giving it to much credit (for now!)

because you cant see people inside the house with it. at best from a little distance you could see a glowing hot fusebox and a really heated room (in america i guess, when houses are made of wood)

but they arnt that super good yet as to actually use them for spying.

i mean this stuff was flirs normal professional stuff 10 years ago. now pocket sized.

its good for busting weed growers tho i quess

I probably am giving the device too much credit, but have to wonder how many "Probably Cause" warrants will be issued because of unknown heat sources in homes and vehicles.

yea cant wait for the first marrige to break up because some dude came home and flir his bed :P

or the police using it to find someone hiding in bushes or runnings through grass at night. that kinda stuff
