User ID: 26224627 United States 07/26/2014 02:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Jordan, a 49-year-old college graduate, took the exam in 1996 and scored 33 points, the equivalent of an IQ of 125. But New London police interviewed only candidates who scored 20 to 27, on the theory that those who scored too high could get bored with police work and leave soon after undergoing costly training. Most Cops Just Above Normal The average score nationally for police officers is 21 to 22, the equivalent of an IQ of 104, or just a little above average. It kinda makes sense though, the smarter people shouldn't be wasting their time filling the role of grunts on the field. Last Edited by Save The Sears Tower on 07/26/2014 02:27 PM |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 51689699 United States 07/26/2014 02:35 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Judge Dorsey, however, ruled that Mr. Jordan that there was no protection offered to intelligent people from discriminatory hiring practices by individual police departments. Why? Because, Dorsey explained, it was proven that police departments held all to this same standard and thus rejected all applicants who scored high. I know how that comes across to me. |

User ID: 32217014 United States 07/26/2014 02:51 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This doesn't surprise me. Not because I think that police officers are stupid -- and I HOPE that police detectives are more intelligent than most people -- but because highly intelligent people think for themselves instead of doing something just because someone higher up in command tells them to do so. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 56009434 The detectives are promoted from the same pool, so no, they aren't more intelligent. |

They also excessively psyche test their applicants, so the fact that they are all a bunch of unempathetic bullies is also no accident. It's by nefarious design, my friends. Smart enough to take orders, too dumb to question them. Ridiculous process, but these are the times we're living in. |

Or any government official, really. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 60562798 You're probably talking to a moron. Police Officially Refuse To Hire Applicants With High IQ Scores It’s long been rumored amongst law enforcement critics, but did you know that police departments officially disqualify high-scoring applicants? That’s not to say that all cops are stupid… Just that if you’re too smart, the police simply won’t hire you. [link to politicalblindspot.com] Click the link. The picture alone is worth the effort. Only in the US. Here its only "la creme de la creme" But we have some morron too |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 60564771 United States 07/26/2014 04:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I was a third generation police officer, I scored very high in the IQ department and had a two year degree in an age when only 8th grade was required to do the work. It was constantly a challenge to maintain my existence due to the stupidity of my fellow workers, who would screw up on the job and I had to be careful or I could go down with them. My father wisely always told me "it's the easiest job in the world to get fired from". I kept a low profile, worked mostly alone and had a good record of arrests the "smart" way. Yet, twice in my career, through no fault of my own, I was whisked away from what I will call my career "comfort zone" due to some "bigger picture" scandal that happened far from my patrol area. I was transferred for just having "five or more years in one place" due to a corruption scandal in a NW area district and thrown into a hell hole late in my career. All the work, the volunteering, the efforts were just thrown away by the city and I ended up having to either retire or find a way out. Well, I did, both in the early one and the latter one, and I retired the very first day I was eligible. Why? Because if you make it that far, 23 years, it's a miracle if you still have a clean record. (as I did). I was not going to take any more risk that some idiot would get me in trouble for their actions. I survived, went back to school to get my B.A,M.A. and I still work in a completely unrelated profession of my own. Stay away from any service job if you are smart. It is very hard to avoid being caught up in some impropriety due to the mistakes of others. |
