Go in looking like you take the career seriously and you want to do this long-term. Nice suit in gray or black, white shirt. Modest pumps, not stilettos. Natural color makeup. Tatoos covered. Hair in a color found in nature (excluding Goth Black). Party-colored hair does not reflect the serious respectful tone needed in the position.

Got my suit, dyed the hair especially...there was no way I stood a chance with bright red hair lol...make up at minimum...Although this could freak them out lol!

Thanks AC hf

I had two friends who were funeral workers and the girl(friend) was a director. The guy is dead from smashing his harley into the back of a parked dump truck.

They were on call all hours of the day and night to collect stiffs and bring em in for refrigeration.

My ex girlfriend became a hair stylist for the funeral homes fixing dead peoples hair for showing.

I know this, they made a lot of money playing with dead people.

Mortuary / morticians is a lucrative business. The aggrieved will pay anything in remembrance of loved ones.

Example: my ma died and she wanted to be cremated. The costliest part of the burial was renting her a casket for a few hours of showing. $1300 rental fee. Total 2003 cost was over 5 grand. From what I hear, that's cheap compared to other mortuaries.

Now for the interview, kinda look like a ghoul upon arrival. You need that almost dead look but be responsive to questions and above all, polite to customers.

Yes I know that they tend to play on ripping the families off with these ideas....I think it's wrong to put pressure on a family that doesn't want or have the money to spend...

I'm a bit worried about the walking in looking almost dead part...lol...maybe I should down a couple of bottles of wine tonight to achieve desired look? Hahaha...

And yes I would be on-call, but only for 3 nights a week every month so not too bad I'm guessing :))

I've always wanted to put make-up on dead people. There is a lot of money in that business. Just dress conservatively and don't be too bubbly or smiley, more serious demeanor. Good luck, hope you get it!
When you find a piece of shit along side the road and you poke it with a stick, what do you expect to find inside of it, gold?
No, it's just going to stink more.

Remember the words of the Chicago coroner who always gathered his group together before they went looking for body parts after mass casualty events like airline crashes(specifically one; a DC-10 in 1979)to remind his crew that each body or body part was a person who was loved and is missed by his/her loved ones and he would say a little prayer asking for strength for them to do their job well. This story was so impactful that he made the cover (or feature article) in People Magazine at the time. (I remember the story so well as my mom and I flew out the very next day on a 727 for a cruise, but many of our fellow passengers had come to Florida on DC-10 and since they were grounded, they were scrambling to rebook their flights home.

It sounds like you have the same compassion as this particular coroner. I saw a documentary about funeral directors on PBS and it showed the professionalism of the field. I particularly liked the "make up lady" who did wonderful work on the deceased making them look as natural as possible. Both of my parents looked quite normal in their caskets.
Good luck!

Re: I've an interview for trainee Funeral Director tomorrow :) Tips/advice appreciated!
Hey guys,

I know this isn't exactly a conspiracy lol but tomorrow I have an interview for.......wait for it....

Trainee Funeral Director!!

I have been trying consistently for over 3 years to get into the industry, but due to being a woman, I have found it really difficult to obtain this.
Funeral home's are very careful of employing Women due to the nature of the business and any heavy lifting involved....But I am more than capable of carrying out the job at hand...I just hope the funeral director can see this tomorrow 1dunno1

I have completed some work experience in the field so am aware of what lies ahead of me...I think lol...
I am very passionate about helping people when they need it the most and think that I would be a fantastic funeral director in the future...

So does anybody work in the industry that could give me any tips for my interview?
Can anyone tell me of any stories they know that can prepare me for what I'm really getting myself into?

I know I'm gonna get shit off some of you for this but it will go over my head...lol....

This is the career for me, I hope lol, and would be glad of any advice...

Please pray that I'm successful....If I don't succeed tomorrow, I think I will have to call it a day on chasing my dream...verysad

Who better than to ask than my GLP family?? dance

Thanks in advance guys xxx

You can always try being a beautician for funeral homes. I once met this girl who got hired on the spot right after doing some extra work with the corpses, she just wanted to prove her abilities to the funeral director.
