It would be extremely noticable and identifiable, something going straight up like that, it would have to get up 250 miles to create the big EMP, so it would take a good 15 minutes to get that high, harder and slower to climb altitude than go horizontally.

Lasers only need one fraction of a second to hit it, they travel really good at that altitude from satellites, very thin atmosphere.
