As I read this article it came to me, due to the irrational behavior of the west Russia has lost all reasons to exercise restraint.

So what's the most destructive thing Russia could do?

I'm going with turn off the energy taps and invade the Ukraine. Rolling artillery barrages and massed rocket fire ahead of the troops. Run or die, driving every last Ukrainian into western Europe. Since the Ukrainians cannot pay their energy bills take their land...call it bill collecting.
