I hate to see the bumper stickers that say the soldiers "fought for our freedom" and I always think the guys with the huge flags flying from their pickups are numb to the truth. They fought for the bankers' freedom to exploit.

But, I honestly think the boys that went ashore on Omaha believed that what they were doing truly mattered.

This kid reflects that spirit--a spirit that is totally gone from today's culture.

My grand parents, and great uncles all fought in WW2.

My great uncle landed on Normandy, and was a changed man after that day. He saw his friends get slaughtered.

War is a horrific thing, and we are sick of the perpetual warfare, but their sacrifices are worth honoring. This kid is way ahead of anyone in his generation, he understands the horror and savagery of war. He had a father willing to show it to him.

It makes me proud to know that at least one child born after 2001 knows how to honor his elders and the sacrifices they make.

Oh it's so fashionable today to degrade vets as patsy's for the bankers and get on a high horse and spit on the past and those who lived and died through that past. The strange thing here is the kids resolve for an hour and a half, doing his thing and not getting distracted. How many 11 years can do that and not lose focus or have any conception of that time in history and shed tears for it.
