The Most Terrifying Conspiracy Theory: Could a brain parasite explain the handling of Ebola?

Honestly, I think the more horrifying scenario -- more horrifying than a brain parasite, and more horrifying than coordinated depopulation -- would be that the people in power are operating out of complete and utter ignorance and lack of education and wisdom.

Yap, plus total lack of empathy ...

Ignorance, lack of education, and lack of wisdom can all be cured. And coordinated depopulation could be stopped by removing TPTB from their positions.

The reason I called this "The Most Terrifying Conspiracy Theory" is because a brain parasite may not be curable and it's hard to detect. And, if it became prevalent enough, it wouldn't matter who was in power, eventually the parasite would win.

Toxoplasmosis gondii, the cat parasite, makes people slaves to cats and causes cancer and aggressive and risky bahaviour in male humans.

That sounds fairly harmless. But, we still don't know how the mind works very well.

Maybe it's just "Plan 9 from Outer Space"? Basically the same idea but it would be mind control created by aliens.

Why did you put "lack of education" in that list? Most of the people in power are very highly educated from top schools.

Star Trek Voyager went into a lot of detail about how the Borg did mind control through nanotechnology. Any thoughts on that?

It won a long time ago. America's end was planned before her beginning by the same people who made sure The Aztecs had a man on the beach watching for "tall, light skinned gods" the exact same DAY that Cortez arrived. Because a light-skinned, bearded man, a god, who was also a SNAKE, (really? No one else knows this?) named "Quetzacoatl" told them the EXACT DAY of his return when he FOUNDED their culture and religion, over 1500 years earlier.

He also gave them, just cant make this up, the most accurate calendar system, or time keeping method, in the ancient or modern world......... to make sure they could count right and BE on that beach! It is even more accurate than the atomic clock, and a huge anomaly in time! These guys have been controlling MUCH of the world and the major events that transpire themselves, for a VERY long time.

Actually, it goes alllll the way back to their beginning, when they created money itself as a means of better controlling men and the worlds affairs. The day they became The Bankers of Babylon.

This episode is right on target I think. I'll have to watch it:

She discovers that a bug-like parasite has latched itself onto Quinn's brain and is controlling him. Dr. Crusher warns Picard of this incident when he contacts the ship in private. He is advised that the infected person can only be stopped by a phaser set to 'kill': the captain points out that he is unarmed.

That doesn't sound too familiar - I wasn't much into Voyager. TNG, DS9, and Babylon5 were my faves - ask me a question (this may call for its own thread).

I'm the opposite. Voyager was the only Star Trek series I really liked and watched almost all of.

VOY: "Scorpion" has an example of Borg nanotechnology but I can't recall what other episodes featured it right now.
