11/14/1997 Pacific Northwest mass sighting

Reports from Northern California, Oregon, Washington and BC of what was claimed to be a Russian proton rocket re-entering the atmosphere and breaking up. I was near Seattle and witnessed it with other witness in my car. When I went home and turned on the news, it was being reported as "space junk" and then later changed to the rocket story. The video clips the news showed was of white, lit objects falling vertical and they claimed it fell into the Pacific Ocean yet witnesses clearly saw it slowly moving horizontal, it was so incredible and mind blowing that it's hard to describe. Does anyone else remember this sighting? It really shook me to the core, it has been quite the journey since then and some of my theories and explanations I've come up with are a bit out there but I really don't know what to make of it. One unique thing I noticed was it just literally vanished into thing air, it didn't suddenly accelerate and fade off-no, it was there one second and just poof, instantly gone. Also, the whitish orbs that were so strategically placed on this object, in other reports were no longer one with the craft but out in the boonies doing scouting recon or something. Oddest thing I ever saw to this day.
