Wyoming officer charged with animal cruelty after K-9 partner dies
So, if a civilian kills a police dog they get charged with homicide or if they injure a police dog they can get charged with assault on an officer (both felonies) but if the officer kills the dog is a misdemeanor animal cruelty charge!?

On July 9, Miller had been training Officer Jake Bigelow between 5:30 a.m. and 12:21 p.m. when they found K9 Nyx, a black lab trained in narcotics, had died from the heat in the vehicle.

When officers left Nyx in the vehicle just before 6 a.m. the morning was still dark and cool, about 53 degrees, according to court records.

When officers returned to the vehicle six hours later they discovered the interior to be very hot and that Nyx had died....

....The investigation was conducted by the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigations. The offense is a misdemeanor, which could be punishable by six months in jail and a $750 fine....

This is related, from Indiana, a few months back. I wonder if this officer was ever charged?

I guess if they treat their own dogs like this there's no expectation that they'll treat yours any better.
