NOTE: Spammers and Haters will not be tolerated on this thread!

Remember that thread from the other day where someone claiming to be nurse said Presbyterian Hospital was canceling all surgeries? Well, I call BS on her and this is why.

This morning my daughter went to ground zero (Presby hospital) with her boyfriend who was having a tonsillectomy over in the surgery center.

Anyway, They did ask her boyfriend pre-op if he has traveled recently. He said," No, but I do live in North Dallas not too far from the Ebola guy." The nurse did not think that was funny. It wasn't meant to be funny, it's the truth.

I asked her if she saw anything odd around the surgery center. She said, other than a sign at the front door that reads, If you are coughing or sneezing...do not enter" Everything seemed normal.

I'm in Sugarland,Texas about 10 mins from South Houston and I haven't heard anything so far. I am sure we will here something coming out of Houston soon. I am just going to wait ans see what happens. This Ebola thing doesn't seem right. I am trying to put my finger on it but I have yet to see the full light.

I thought the same thing a couple of days ago but now I'm sitting on the fence. Am I going to stop living my life because of this Ebola situation? Probably not. If its in the general population, I could pick it up in the grocery store just as easily as at the fair. I'll wait a week to see if we have any more cases and if it seems to be under control, I'm going to the fair and eat fried everything!

Deleting an honest post about the truth about the state fair.

Nice.

If you care about your "fellow Texans" you would be advising everyone to NOT attend events like the state fair!!

hf Thanks for this post. I live near Dallas, have noticed a bit of a run on non perishables and water, but nothing untoward yet. The sterilization process here, regarding this guy's trail & possible affectees seems to be a joke. Just watched a contractor in front of his girlfriend's apartment hosing down a place where he puked, right into the sewer. Wheeee!

If people are brain dead enough to attend a FOOTBALL GAME in DALLAS this weekend...their really is NO HOPE to contain this. Most of my friends are so into Candy Crush, MLB, NFL, their smart phones, reality TV that they don't even know what is coming...they don't see this as a threat AT ALL. If this is real doom and most people are like my friends, who are smart, Christian people...then we are done.

That makes NO sense. Something is way OFF with a lot of things that are being reported, including that. There is no way in hell they would go in there unprotected. The health director? Give me a break.

So why the BS story then? To scare the hell out of everyone.

Don't think that was the apt he was staying in. Think they moved the family to another apt that was not contaminated. If you leave them in the contaminated apt, they will get it at some point over time. Also, you would have to start the 21 day period over. They have to be in an environment not contaminated. Then if one of them test positive, the other in there will have to start 21 day over.
In every operation, whether planning it or executing it, you can never count on luck; but you have to accept it, and recognize it when it’s there.

Yea lets see what they say when they get their first unit on ward. People should be alert, not crazy panic, but alert and cautious more then ever on safe handling precautions.

On what basis? I've worked in healthcare for 15 years. The handles, rails, door knobs, etc... at your home or work place are much nastier than those at a hospital.

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection is caused by a strain of staph bacteria that's become resistant to the antibiotics commonly used to treat ordinary staph infections.

Most MRSA infections occur in people who've been in hospitals or other health care settings, such as nursing homes and dialysis centers. When it occurs in these settings, it's known as health care-associated MRSA (HA-MRSA). HA-MRSA infections typically are associated with invasive procedures or devices, such as surgeries, intravenous tubing or artificial joints.

Well I look at it like this... The chances of getting infected or exposed are much higher at a fair compared to a grocery store or else where. There is so much that people touch and interact with at the fair. Food vendors, rides, midway games, tickets, petting zoo, new car show, small not always the cleanest restrooms. When you go to the store odds are your not gonna touch a bunch of things or intact with too many people. Not really putting life on hold, just trying to protect me and my family I hope this gets better not worse.

My remarks about the state fair are not "picking on" anyone - it's fact.

I'm a native Texan, probably for a lot longer than you've been and I know this state and its people quite well.

NO responsible person would go to the state fair in recent years - but most especially NOW. A

So cowgirl, if you really care about your fellow citizens, you should advocate that message.

People should not panic or live in fear 24/7 - but they SHOULD avoid all air travel and ALL major gatherings where they have a choice to not attend.

San Antonio here, at work no masks or worriers yet... I treat it like a joke to my coworkers to keep the mood light while still suggesting safety procedures... Everyone is talking and I get a hint of uneasiness.. What I'm worried about here is public transport, I constantly hear about sweaty, full figured people rubbing up against people on the bus. Prayers and good vibes up to Dallas

I'm with you on this but I don't know what to do about it.

Both of my adult children work in LARGE hotels in the DFW area. Every day they interact with flight crews and guests from all over the world. They can't stop going to work because someone might be a carrier. We can all practice better hand washing and try to stay away from people who are coughing and sneezing but short of locking ourselves in the house for the next 21 days...I don't know what to do other than keep on living. (and drinking) lol
