Good lord. We handed our government over to Alfred E Neuman. Here we are. Texans have the capacity and gumption to successfully detach from the federal teat. They should do it. Rick Perry has more brains in his turds than Obama has in his skull.

Re: My Fellow Texans - Please Report In!
Hi everyone! I live in the Lake Highlands area, about 10 minutes from patient 0. I was at the local Walmart today, but was unable to buy hand sanitizer, they were out. I went to the post office, where all of the employees were wearing latex gloves. I then received a call from Wallace Elementary stating that three of the kids were not in school because of exposure to ebola virus.

Pretty scary around here.
 Quoting: indycity

Thanks for the report!
 Quoting: CowgirlK

People at the post office were wearing gloves?

Is this being done at all facilities?

So what about the general populace receiving mail?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 56411813

Don't see how gloves help. The gloves are a surface that carries the virus from its source to your face. Same as your skin. If it was AIDS then yes because AIDS might enter through a cut on your hand. But ebola? Touch your mouth, nose or eye with a gloved ebola-laden glove and it's no different than doing the same with an ungloved hand.

Maybe this really is nature's way of culling the herd.

DALLAS -- Five members of the Dallas County Sheriff's Department who were briefly inside the apartment where a man with Ebola stayed have been temporarily put on leave.

[link to www.wfaa.com]
 Quoting: CowgirlK

Ok, so those five plus the other two fucking morons ALL went into that apartment - but NONE of them have been quarantined.

The county health official and doctor were at the news conference, meaning they potentially exposed EVERYONE at that news conference.

Is this the fucking Twilight Zone???!!

Does ANYONE understand the insanity of this?!

Re: My Fellow Texans - Please Report In!
Here is that info that I mentioned in an earlier post regarding 911 and ambulances.

Additions to procedures include:

• 911 operators will be asking patients whether they have traveled out of the United States, and specifically whether they have been to Africa.

• MedStar officials will be using a monitoring system called First Watch. To help the Tarrant County Health Department, the 911 dispatch computer will plot on a map specific call types so ambulance officials will be able to know whether a neighborhood is experiencing a high number of those calls.

• Ambulance officials are increasing communication from the scene to the hospital for suspected Ebola cases so hospital staffs can be prepared for the patient’s arrival.

• Officials also have worked out notifications to Tarrant County Public Health. If MedStar transports a suspected Ebola patient to a hospital, officials there will notify the county. If the patient declines to be taken to a hospital, MedStar officials would notify the county health department.

I'd say this is closing the barn door after the cows have left. Starting about 10 days ago, it NO LONGER MATTERS IF YOU'VE BEEN TO AFRICA.

IT'S FUCKING HERE YOU FUCKING CDC/PUBLIC-HEALTH MORONS!

Due to Thursday afternoon's severe storms, several Dallas ISD schools remain without power.

A spokesperson for DISD said that as a result, staff and parents are urged to monitor the news, the district's website, the HUB website and the district's Facebook page Friday morning for information regarding whether individual campuses will be in session on Friday.

Not long after, a little before 5 p.m., Dallas City Hall spokesman Sana Syed sent a stern email to the news media. "Numerous reporters and photographers converged on a northeast Dallas apartment complex today, in which the Ebola patient was residing," Syed wrote. "We have received reports about overly aggressive behavior by some media representatives which has unnecessarily alarmed many of the residents. We understand that you have a job to do, but we ask that you also be mindful of the safety and security of these residents."

I'm in Fort Worth. Got home last night and our neighborhood was a MESS. Trees & power lines down everywhere. I couldn't even get in my driveway due to so many big limbs down, spent about an hour clearing it. We were without power, but fortunately it came back on around 8 PM last night. I heard that others in our neighborhood still don't have power, and I know Arlington ISD and several DISD schools are closed today due to power outages.

Will be back when I hear.

Wanted to give an update in case I fall asleep before I here anything.

Have not talked in person, not sure when I will but am hopeful this weekend. We do not live close and each have families with kids.

I will say we chatted some yesterday and his tone was very "optimistic" and had faith that all would be well.

Tonight, completely different. Was very "guarded" and what I would describe as concerned. Complete 180 from last night. I know better not to ask specific and detailed questions via phone or texts. Would not put him in that position and he would know better not to answer. That said, if he was in full on "pucker mode" he would have let me know. We didn't have much time tonight, but I should also mention that being in LE and do not know what happened on his shift to make his tone change. It can be things not related to Ebola at all. For instance, he could have been called out to a child abuse case or a child mauling...several things that officers in LE encounter really does affect how they are. I will chat with him in the AM, if his tone is the same then will dig a little deeper.

It was as when you are overwhelmed and are trying to process a lot...really trying to avoid saying in "shock" as I do not want to add anything that I have not confirmed with him in person.

As for the former colleague who now is at Dallas Fire, haven't heard anything back yet...but not unusual considering I haven't spoke to him in a few yrs.

Will update when I hear more, didn't want to not respond tonight and leave everyone hanging, sorry I don't have anything more substantial as I know everyone wants to know.

OK, think things have changed. Might be getting to critical point. Just got msg from him. Normally when he is busy I will get a "on a call" or something along those lines.

This is what I just received: "can't talk now. See you and ******* tomorrow for the game"

Here is the thing, had no plans with him this weekend, especially to go to or watch a game (the ***** is a nickname I have for my toddler). Take this however you want, I know what he is saying. The fact that he referenced my toddler not good. He is telling to watch the f**k out.

All I can say is I was concerned and didn't have a good feeling about this. Now, will be topping off gas tanks, filling a few gas cans (enough to get to families location in another state without having to stop), going to Sams Club, then Walgreens.

I am taking this as (1) he put me on notice (2) what he has heard is not good (3) prepare to do what is necessary to be safe (whether it is shelter in place or new location).

Before anyone asks and just to be clear, I will not be seeing him tomorrow for a game. He was being careful and trying to send me a msg without raising flags. I will not be contacting him for a few days, if he hears anything he will let me know...probably referencing a certain game or time.

I am taking this as 100% pucker time...surprised it hasn't sucked up the chair I am in at the moment.

If we do leave the DFW area I will post that for those in the metroplex. Not trying to scare anyone, just providing details that I have heard. Again, take this as you want...whether you believe me or not is not a concern. Just feel I have a moral obligation to my fellow Texans. This is real as it gets.

"CDC director Dr. Tom Frieden was asked on NBC's "Today" show why the apartment wasn't immediately cleaned.
"The details of that you'd have to refer to the folks in Dallas," Frieden said Friday. "But this is, after all, the first time we've ever had a case of Ebola in the U.S. and there are issues to make sure that when things are removed that it is not going to be disposed of in any way that could potentially be a risk."
The crew went to the apartment Thursday evening, but didn't have the required permits to clean and remove hazardous waste, city spokesman Richard Hill said. The family must be relocated before the cleanup can begin.
Police said they're constantly watching the family after they ignored initial requests to remain in the apartment and sent a child to school Wednesday."

[link to www.nbcdfw.com]

Why send a crew w/o a hazardous waste permit (reports are crew refused to enter)

How can CDC director not know how to clean this regardless if this is the first case, this isn't first hazardous waste clean up

Notice family has to be moved before they clean apt...then why deliver 3 weeks of food to that apt?

I have zero confidence in these people.

Sure it was a "permit issue." Here is what they said yesterday. So which one is lying? CDC Director or the Texas Health Commissioner? Someone is providing compromised information. Also, if it is so hard to get Ebola, why are there so many hazardous contractors saying they won't clean it?

"officials said it had been difficult to find a contractor willing to enter the apartment to clean it and remove bedding and clothes, which they said had been bagged in plastic. They said they now had hired a firm that would do the work soon. The Texas health commissioner, Dr. David Lakey, told reporters during an afternoon news conference that officials had encountered “a little bit of hesitancy” in seeking a firm to clean the apartment.

Cameraman being brought home with Ebola thinks he may have gotten it trying to decontaminate a car WITH protective gear on!,

“At one point he was trying to help decontaminate a car. He had most of the protective gear on, but he thinks something might have splashed on his body at that point. That’s one possibility, but really, one doesn’t know fully,” Diana said.

Explains why cleaning crew here said no to cleaning apt. Said it before, don't listen to what they say now that it is here. Go back and look at what they were saying 3 month ago.

Reaper..Thank You for the report!!!!I've been dragging my feet on things like filling the gas cans and a few more last minute preps. Considering what your friend "did not say" I think I'll be heading out soon to tie up the ends.

I've got a few people I can contact and try to shake them down for info. I'll let y'all know if I hear anything.

Stay Safe everyone!
