The second part of Jude 1:23:

Hating even the garment spotted by the flesh: it is an allusion to that ceremonial law, Leviticus 15:4,17, where he that touched a defiled garment was himself defiled. The sense is, either:

1. That where there is danger of infection from heretics and obstinate sinners, all converse with them, and any thing whereby the contagion of their doctrine or manners may reach us, is to be avoided: or:

2. That when we reprehend others, we should do it with suitable affections, and though we would save themselves, we should hate their vices, and any thing that promotes them or savours of them.

These numerical facts seem to be too much to be coincidence, and I don’t want to go overboard; but it is possible that God is trying to tell us something (perhaps that He is in control and acting, or perhaps that something has changed or started)....

Jude Reminds Us to Learn from Past Mistakes

These are Jude’s introductory words before he pulls three significant references from the past indicating the sins of the people and the consequences:

The Israelites
The fallen angels
Sodom and Gomorrah

Though the audience were very familiar with these incidents, people are forgetful, and he wanted to remind them. The past is an excellent teacher.

1. The Unbelief of the Israelites

First, Jude quotes the example of the Israelites.

“...the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe.” (Jude 1:5)

It was with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm that God brought the Israelites out of Egypt (Psalm 136:12). However, they quickly forgot God’s power and sovereignty. Their unbelief took over, and they doubted God on several occasions after their historic and divine exodus....

The fallen angels in Noah's day lead the people astray.

There are fallen angels today, along with satan, seeking to lead the entire world astray:

Revelation 12:9 ...Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

Noah (son of Lamech) first heard of the destruction that was to come from an angel of the Lord:

Enoch 10:1 ..the Most High, the Great and Holy One...

The book of Enoch gives this explanation how the day of destruction happens:

Enoch 54:7 And in those days, the punishment of the Lord of Spirits will go out, and all the storehouses of the waters which are above the sky and under the

So, let's start from the beginning before Noah was born:

When Enoch learned of the great destruction he feared for his offspring and his progeny - so he prayed to God to spare them:

Enoch 83:6 ...O God, Lord and mighty King, I entreat thee, and beseech thee to grant my prayer, that a posterity may be left to me on earth, and that the whole human race may not perish;

7. That the earth may not be left destitute, and destruction take place for ever.

8. O my Lord, let the race perish from off the earth which has offended thee, but a righteous and upright race establish for a posterity for ever. Hide not thy face, O Lord, from the prayer of thy servant.

An answer to Enoch's prayer was the birth of Noah:

Enoch 106:1 And after some days my son, Methuselah, took a wife for his son Lamech, and she became pregnant by him and bore him a son.

It was clear when he was born - he was extra special:
