The X-Files shone a light into an otherwise dark and dank rabbit hole. Quoting: cosmicgypsy You're right. X-FILES actualized and gave high production values to an old TV chain of topics, but they were well documented about the "real" stuff and the current conspiracy theories too, under a coherent arc. Great TV show from every POV. |

Could have been a bunch of GLPers, had it all - prepping, bugging out, defending against outsiders. Great old series. Quoting: Tess2012 I don't remember it, but sounds really good. UK TV has produced some of the most memorable TV arctifacts EVER, good enterteinment and mind's food, and always with a touch of class or wild surrealism. Great stuff! |

THE OUTER LIMITS TOS 11.1% (3) They control the vertical and everything. Stephano's (among others, like Harlan Hellison) bunch of speculative stories maybe the best bizarre TV series ever. DR.WHO 11.1% (3) That initially BBC's stuff for kids became after 40 years in one of the main references on TV Scifi & fantasy with the messianic Dr (thru his sucessive incarnations) and the evilish The Master. Greather than life. THE PRISONER 7.4% (2) Surrealist and ominous, the adventures of Number 6 in a world of nightmare, conspiracy and paranoia is still a wonder. DARK SKIES 7.4% (2) Or making a coherent dramatic arc from a lot of UFO conspiracy & myths. FRINGE 7.4% (2) Can you make a decently original TV series after The X-Files? Actually yes, this one. STAR TREK TOS 3.7% (1) No words. If ya don't know this classic masterpiece of less is more you're really an ET or som'thing. MILLENNIUM 3.7% (1) Carter's magnetic speculation on the apocalyptic ending of the XXth Century. Still waiting for a series on the apocalyptic beginning of the XXIst. ONE STEP BEYOND 0% (0) THE TWILIGHT ZONE TOS 0% (0) TAKEN 0% (0) WTH all of the above or som'thing 7.4% (2) Blank (View Results) (10) Non-Blank Votes: 27 CARRY ON WITH THE VOTING!... |

I mean, I know it's old and all, but still. Ah, well, perhaps just some nostalgic feelings on my part. It was the first woo-woo show I ever watched. It was the Serling's jewel of fantasy and bizarreness on the human condition, maybe a bit literary or poetical sometimes more than a festival of doom, from our present POVs and tastes. Still, it's not only one of the best fantasy TV series, but simply one of the best TV series ever. Last Edited by Inerrancia on 10/13/2014 03:17 PM |

"A strange game. The only winning move is not to play." - 'Wargames' "This world is more like a mystery, trapped in a conundrum, spun by a paradox." - AC1118155 |

Could have been a bunch of GLPers, had it all - prepping, bugging out, defending against outsiders. Great old series. Quoting: Tess2012 Series 1 (1975) As the world's population is almost annihilated by a mysterious pandemic, accidentally unleashed by a Chinese scientist, the crisis is first seen through the eyes of two characters—Jenny Richards, a young working woman in London and Abby Grant, a middle-class corporate wife living a privileged existence in a nearby commuter village. As Abby goes in search of her son Peter, Jenny wanders aimlessly through the countryside. Other major characters introduced in the first few episodes are the resourceful engineer Greg Preston, the shifty Welshman Tom Price and two children, John Millon and Lizzie Willoughby. Abby, Jenny and Greg eventually come together and realise they must start again from scratch now that the civilization they once knew has been destroyed. After several adventures on the road, they find a property called The Grange which they can use as a base and, joined by other survivors, they form a potted community of disparate individuals all united by a shared purpose—to relearn the old skills of farming and tool-making, and to try to live in this new world. In episode 9, Wendy is raped and murdered and the simple minded Barney is believed to be guilty. Thinking him a danger to the others, Greg talks them into executing him and finally shoots Barney himself, only to find out just afterwards that Price was the guilty party and that he killed an innocent man. Price is shot dead in episode 10 when firing at some armed men they have met. The series ends with the arrival of a sick young woman, Ruth Anderson (Annie Irving), who recovers and reveals that she is a partly trained medical student. [link to en.wikipedia.org] sounds fun. |
