Anonymous Coward User ID: 64035866 Australia 10/14/2014 07:20 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A Russian official has mocked Tony Abbott's threat to "shirt-front" Vladimir Putin at the G20 summit, contrasting the President's judo skills with the Australian Prime Minister's passion for riding bicycles. And the Canberra embassy's second secretary, Alexander Odoevskiy, confirmed Moscow's position was that Mr Putin still planned to attend the G20 summit. He also pointed out that it may be difficult for Mr Abbott to carry out his threat at next month's Brisbane meeting because a formal bilateral meeting has not even been scheduled. A shirt-front is a front-on charge designed to knock an opponent to the ground. It is commonly used in the AFL. Mr Odoevskiy told Fairfax Media the comments had prompted him to do some research on what shirt-front meant and "I learned a little more about Aussie Rules football". "As I understand, this is quite an old fashioned term which is not widely used in the modern day game," he said. "Also, it is illegal." Mr Putin, a former KGB officer, has a black-belt in judo. Mr Abbott earned two blues for boxing while at Oxford University. [link to www.smh.com.au] |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 63660762 Wouldn't it make more sense for Kiev or the USA which had a spy satellite over head to lay out some evidence? Nope the best the Americans have come up with is foaming mouth blather and Kiev is hiding any evidence it has. JamesB |

The Opposition Leader told ABC's The 7.30 Report yesterday that voters should not believe every pledge he makes unless it is written down as the "gospel truth". Mr Abbott revealed that "in the heat of discussion" he sometimes went further with a promise than he should. "The statements that need to be taken absolutely as gospel truth are those carefully prepared scripted remarks."" [link to www.heraldsun.com.au] |

[link to www.heraldsun.com.au] It never ceases to amaze me that complete idiots can get elected anywhere in the west repeatedly. No I will not start a thread every time Tony says something dumb, but this one has to be a class one example of how to make your self look bad. JamesB |
