In which case he could have donated to Duncan too (if it was only plasma). Strange that Dr Kent 'blood bank' Brantley donates so much. I guess it's really O neg blood (universal donor) or compatible blood, laden with either Zmapp or TKM-Ebola (or both for maximum effect). |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 45883021 Not necessarily. Plasma compatibility is different from whole blood compatibility. For blood, Type O- is universal, but with plasma, AB is universal. "Plasma Compatibility Plasma contains Anti-A and Anti-B antibodies depending upon blood group. Patients should only receive plasma which does not contain an antibody which could attack their own red cells.(4) Antibodies are important molecules our immune system makes to help protect ourselves against foreign things such as bacteria and viruses. Antibodies can also be formed in response to different blood groups. Group O people have both Anti-A and Anti-B so group O plasma can ONLY be given to group O patients. If group O plasma were given to a group A patient, the Anti-A will attack the patient’s group A red cells.(4) Group A plasma contains anti-B. Group A plasma can only be given to patients who are group A or O i.e. only patients who do not have group B red cells.(4) Group B plasma contains anti-A. Group B plasma can only be given to patients who are group B or O.(4) Group AB plasma does not contain any Anti-A or Anti-B. AB plasma can be given to patients who are group AB, A, B or O. Group AB donors are called “universal plasma donors” and their plasma can be safely given to any patient.(4)" [link to mytransfusion.com.au] Less than 50% |

My guess is that you are correct. If Brantly was AB he would have been able to donate to Duncan, but we were told that they were incompatible. Another thing to keep in mind is that there is a finite amount they can take from Brantly in a given time frame. He can't keep donating every time someone is positively diagnosed with Ebola. |

[link to www.dailymail.co.uk] There are four major blood types: A, B, AB, and O. They divide into positive and negative categories. It is not known what blood type the four Ebola patients have in common. The most common blood type in the US is O positive, although ethnic groups normally differ. The majority of African Americans and Hispanics have O positive. Around 37 per cent of Caucasians do too, but 33 per cent have A positive. There is more variety among Asian people. A quarter are listed as B positive, according to the Red Cross, but many also have a high number of Os and As. Not sure what types, but all positive blood types seem to be the common factor. None have been rh- since most Africans, hispanics have positive blood types. Does this mean ebola will effect those with positive blood types? What effect if any, on those rh- for rhesus monkey factor. Its like the simian virus in planet of the apes. Makes sence, since monkeys get ebola. And those that are rh + would also get ebola. Wow, truth is in the rh factor, it seems. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 63391304 United States 10/14/2014 01:13 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Dr Brantly and the nurse most likely have A+, B+, or AB +. Dr Brantly couldn't donate blood to Duncan, most likely because Duncan was 0+. I would like confirmation to this. At any rate, why can't drs make more serum from Dr Brantlys blood? He has the antibodies after surviving ebola. Plus he got the serum. I won't get the vaccine for ebola, flu, or have my children vaccinated for anything. This new generation is gmo, bioengineered. They can alter and change your dna, rna, add new virus to mutate, toxic adjuvents, and or contain nanites or rfid. If obamacare, or EO forces vaccines, or go into fema quarantine, run for your life. Do not get caught, stay off grid, stay hidden, stay gone. |

If we have a pandemic here in the states, and a person survives, what are his rights vs. obligations vs. choices? If you survive without any vaccine, can you choose whether or not to donate your blood and when? Most people WOULD donate unless they felt sick maybe. Would you donate to a man who choose to lie and risk infecting his family that sounds like a psychopath? Should you be forced to? Is your body really your own? Now, if YOU receive a vaccine and are alive because of it, don't you sort of become gov't property? Do you still have your rights to do with your body as you please or should you be forced to donate since you received vaccine that was limited in supply? |
