User ID: 14324050 United States 10/13/2014 11:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I work in a fairly large regional hospital in NW Louisiana. Quoting: DeadManWalkin' I have direct contact with surgical patients. The *minute* I clocked in & donned my head/shoe covers & went to check the running board for my assignment, I was intercepted by my Educator before I ever got to the Central Nurses' Station (running Board). I was handed a 3 page document & asked to sign for it. We generally only have to sign policy changes, disciplinary actions, inservices etc. I signed & took the 3 page document. I visually scanned it, but havent thoroughly read it yet. Driving home 8 1/2+ hrs later... I caught myself rubbing my eyes ~ TWICE! I'm *trained* in Sterile Technique - it's WHAT I *DO* - but I'm also accustomed to relaxing when I'm not required to be sterile ~ ie, not in surgery. I failed this evening, driving home. I may have contaminated myself & my family, & now I cannot trust *even myself!* If I can't stay sterile during everyday Life...nobody can! What requirements did it spell out for staying sterile during everyday life? |

They got their biohazard gear today and a protocol book for handling Ebola. When I get to where I can load the pics I will do so. It will probably be tomorrow morning. |

It doesn't even list the appropriate personnel to contact in case of a problem. wait why don't you wash your hands when you leave the hospital??? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 64023129 I do, and I don't touch anything til I get to my car. Pics of the document or pics of me rubbing my eyes? It doesn't. It's strictly about the hospital & preocedures while there. I have a pic a friend sent me who is a PA in an emergency room. They got their biohazard gear today and a protocol book for handling Ebola. When I get to where I can load the pics I will do so. It will probably be tomorrow morning. Quoting: Threelittlelambs That'd be great. I'll ask around today, see if our ER got any better info than we did. We basically got nothing we didn't already know. I heard one of our charge nurses say she'll take an extended leave of absence if it gets here. Another (higher up) then said "They won't have anybody working for them!" And I could tell she was including herself in that. It's gonna be interesting to see how all this plays out. -.. . .- -.. / -- .- -. / .-- .- .-.. -.- .. -. --. Omnes vulnerant, ultima necat |

The pic will reduce the quality enough that it can't be traced. Every laser printer has a coded signature. Odd as that sounds. You can post pics anon @ contagiontracker.com and it doesn't log ip's. |

(OP) User ID: 25544022 United States 10/14/2014 08:19 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Sounds like AIDS/HIV hysteria in 80s when some medical personnel refused to treat HIV patients. Are you sure you want to be part of such travesty? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 48077104 Of course I don't "want" to be part of any of this. What would you have me do - show up to man a surgical dep't on my own while everyone else is some place where they feel safe? Two of my supervisors basically said "Ha! Fuck that!" in a conversation I was part of. I didn't overhear it. I was in the conversation. A CRNA literally said they'd be bugging out, another nurse said it's time to buy some land in the country (I didn't tell her it's too late for that..poor gal) When it comes right down to it, Friend, nobody is obligated to die for another. Nobody is obligated to bring disease home to their children or other loved ones. It is what it is. -.. . .- -.. / -- .- -. / .-- .- .-.. -.- .. -. --. Omnes vulnerant, ultima necat |

Are you sure you want to be part of such travesty? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 48077104 Aids is actually very hard to transmit, in fact, just avoiding some rather deviant / degenerate behavior patterns pretty much eliminates the contagion threat outside of edge cases. We have ample evidence Ebola is pretty easy to transmit and kills rapidly. Behavior patterns contribute MUCH less to transmission. Even clean living humans can be infected. Thus, they are completely reasonable in not wanting to be around Ebola. |

The clear difference of HIV vs Ebola is you can live a very long life with HIV-but when time is up the end is horrible. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 23525138 United States 10/14/2014 08:34 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My sister just received an email from the hospital she works for also, basically stating they have already sent all the information once before but here it is again. All it is is a link to the CDC in what symptoms to look for. She sent an email to her boss asking if there would be any training on dealing with the patients including the biohazard clothing, etc. and they just said it was in the email, which it wasn't. She thinks they are just covering their own asses. They also have had one Ebola scare, test came back negative, but they said they are expecting more. So why not train the nurses and nurse assistants in how to protect themselves? We are in Idaho. |

I have direct access to any info available to her and will post at GLP if I get anything worthwhile. I've spotted quite a few hospital/clinical workers posting on GLP, would it be a good idea for someone to start a thread devoted to containing any genuine first hand medical info? That way it's all in one place and easy to access. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 64011316 United States 10/14/2014 09:00 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | American hospitals are not some kind of altruistic charity organizations - they are, for the most part, incredible profit centers for insurance companies and their investors. We really need to lose the "dedicated to saving humanity" BS and see them as they actually are. Nurses and doctors are just expendable losses - spokes in the wheel. |

Far too many hit and run asshole posters, mostly anonymous, OR, thread hijackers who slam good intel. I too am in healthcare and I totally agree... it is so easy to do ONE THING like this in healthcare and your life and family are at risk. Everyone needs to realize just how easy this is. It can also be a simple slip in removing PPE. I work in a fairly large regional hospital in NW Louisiana. Quoting: DeadManWalkin' I have direct contact with surgical patients.
