I was US Army from 1986 to 1994, and my MOS was 71L -- Administrative Specialist.

I had wartime service in both Operation Just Cause and Operation Desert Storm.

Thank you to all the Veterans of our overseas wars! Your service and sacrifice will never be forgotten ...

Forgot to add -- let's please limit participation in this thread to *war* veterans -- those who actually directly served in our nation's overseas wars.

1968-1974. 11 bravo. I hunted and killed progressive socialists in viet nam. I still hate progressives.

11C 1980-1984. It was pretty much peacetime but we were prepared to invade Iran during the hostage crisis.

I just wanted to give a shout out to anyone who served our country and what they did.

Not "pretty much" peacetime, your service *was* peacetime service. You never put your boots down in an active war zone. I did.

Don't try to equate your service with those who did go to war.

And if you were Army in Vietnam you were wearing a division patch on both shoulders when in uniform.

Just like me (the patch on the right shoulder denoting wartime service in that division/unit, in my case wartime service in the 82nd Airborne Division during Operation Just Cause).

That's the mark of a Veteran. I'll bet OP didn't even have anything above his "US Army" tag -- just met the minimum standards.

At least I'm a true Veteran, a war Veteran, so I can be a member of the VFW (and I am a member).

OP never served in a war zone, so he can't join the VFW (you have to be a Veteran of a Foreign War).

Maybe he can join the American Legion -- they'll take anyone who served *during* war time -- which is BS, and I why I never joined that one.

Though I think under the American Legion's guidelines service during Grenada doesn't qualify ... sorry OP.

I call BS on your wartime service, or military experience in general. No one who spent anytime in the Military, whether in theater or not, brags about it in the manner you just did.

We were attacked on Sept 11, 2001. Did you re-up then? I did, in the Army Reserve, but regretfully was never deployed to the war zones.

I did have prior war service in Panama and Saudi Arabia/Kuwait/N. Iraq, boots on the ground, so I do have true Veteran status (unlike OP).

Brother I don't know you, but I did not restrict this thread to those who only saw action. While I appreciate what you have done for this country, please do not attempt to dishonor those who also served faithfully and were and are prepared at a moment's notice to place their lives in peril to protect this nation and it's citizens.

My father was wounded 3 times in Korea and my two elder brothers served in Marine rifle companies in Nam from 68-72. For some of us it just wasn't meant to be, although I do hold our wounded warriors and those lost in combat in my highest esteem.
