The Sumerian King List still puzzles historians after more than a century of research
Out of the many incredible artefacts that have been recovered from sites in Iraq where flourishing Sumerian cities once stood, few have been more intriguing that the Sumerian King List, an ancient manuscript originally recorded in the Sumerian language, listing kings of Sumer (ancient southern Iraq) from Sumerian and neighbouring dynasties, their supposed reign lengths, and the locations of "official" kingship. What makes this artefact so unique is the fact that the list blends apparently mythical pre-dynastic rulers with historical rulers who are known to have existed.

The first fragment of this rare and unique text, a 4,000-year-old cuneiform tablet, was found in the early 1900s by German-American scholar Hermann Hilprecht at the site of ancient Nippur and published in 1906. Since Hilprecht’s discovery, at least 18 other exemplars of the king’s list have been found, most of them dating from the second half of the Isin dynasty (c. 2017-1794 BCE.). No two of these documents are identical. However, there is enough common material in all versions of the list to make it clear that they are derived from a single, "ideal" account of Sumerian history.

Re: The Sumerian King List still puzzles historians after more than a century of research
By the 3rd millennium BC, Sumer was the site of at least twelve separate city states: Kish, Erech, Ur,Sippar, Akshak, Larak, Nippur, Adab, Umma, Lagash, Bad-tibira, and Larsa. Each of these states comprised a walled city and its surrounding villages and land, and each worshiped its own deity, whose temple was the central structure of the city. Political power originally belonged to the citizens, but, as rivalry between the various city-states increased, each adopted the institution of kingship.

The Sumerian King List begins with the very origin of kingship, which is seen as a divine institution: “the kingship had descended from heaven”. The rulers in the earliest dynasties are represented as reigning fantastically long periods.

What was the name of the king who boasted he could read the texts from before the flood?
Banned as usual.

“It is far easier to be a weakling than to be a Real Man. Were the Earth less harsh or the circumstances of life less austere, man would destroy himself before the shrine of the languid goddess. Only Real Men can with safety destroy the tangled forests and wilderness of Earth and make from them gardens, but will those who inherit the gardens be Real Men? The law decrees that they must be, or the wilderness will reclaim its own.”

Re: The Sumerian King List still puzzles historians after more than a century of research
I just love this stuff, OP! Thanks for this thread--
reminds me to do some more reading.

I have my own "pet theory" about the Sumerian cuneform
below which I have seen labeled as "Annu's Wife
(Annana)...or the fertility Goddess from Egypt
Isis...and others.

What I find interesting, too, is that Annana is
standing on top of 2 lions. And, notice the Owls
at each side, too.

There has been some research, especially by Wayne
Hershel of "The Hidden Records" that the Sphinx
that sits in front of the Great Pyramid at Giza
originally was carved with a LION FACE--not a
Pharaoh's (that was recarved from the Lion face
much later as the new date for the Sphinx may
actually be over 10,000 years ago!) Not only that
but the Sphinx was originally TWO LIONS just like
the carving with Annana.

:Annanna:

Mind blowing even further is the theory by
Wayne Hershel that the Spinx was much more than
a statue honoring a Nature God & Orion...but that
this was actually built as a landing platform for
extra-terrestrials. This is an ancient Egyptian
papyrus (likeness) showing the object landing on
the back of the Sphinx. There was originally a
door in the back of the Lion's head where the
ETs would exit their craft! Pretty cool!

An accurate history of Sumeria, indeed everything, would likely have us looking at ourselves and everyone in an entirely different way, and in ways that certain special interests would not like.

yes, you are right, also the story of creation is true.. that is the point: you have to choose, what suits you best, however both claims are true :) evolution is not just theory anymore, it is fact. many puzzles put together (number of chromosomes, sumerian texts and many many other scientifically proven facts, that are either ignored or dismissed as mythology or imagination of people who recorded them thru history) points to the fact, that humans were genetically engineered (first individuals some 400 000 years ago, others later = thats why there are human races like asians without facial hair, skin color variations etc. IMHO)

it's like choosing between communism and capitalism: both systems are wrong, but have some good ideas.. sheeple are just unable to pick those best parts and combine them into something logical and good. they are taught to CHOOSE and argue with opposition (which is also right in some of their points) indefinitely

divide and conquer policy ;)

Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits, rebels, the trouble makers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently.

They are not fond of rules and they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them.

But the only thing you can't do is ignore them, because they change things. They push the human race forward.

And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.

Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do!

Re: The Sumerian King List still puzzles historians after more than a century of research
Sumerian language can be decrypted using Hungarian

As might be expected, the Sumerian language did leave a significant heritage. For example, there are significant similarities among various agglutinative languages like Mongolian, Turkic, and Hungarian. In fact, in the process of decifering Sumerian, the Hungarian (which is not an indo-european language) was very useful. See for example, [link to users.cwnet.com] just one of many sites with information on this topic.

For example, "In his Sumerian Etymological Dictionary and Comparative Grammar, Kálmán Gosztony, professor of Sumerian philology at the Sorbonne, demonstrated that the grammatical structure of the Hungarian language is the closest to that of the Sumerian language: out of the 53 characteristics of Sumerian grammar, there are 51 matching characteristics in the Hungarian language, 29 in the Turkic languages, 24 in the Caucasian languages, 21 in the Uralic languages, 5 in the Semitic languages, and 4 in the Indo-European languages."
