In his gleeful showboating over passing the bill, Jonathan Gruber has clearly identified President Obama as the source of the lie behind the Cadillac Tax.

The story is no longer about Jonathan Gruber. It’s about the deliberate lie the President used to pass this monstrosity of a healthcare law.

And that was a meeting — it was very exciting, once again, because the economists in the room all said the number one thing you need to do is you need to take on the tax subsidy to employer-sponsored insurance.

The way employer-sponsored insurance works is, if you get paid in wages, you get taxed. If you get paid in health insurance, you do not. …

So this tax subsidy economists have been railing against for decades, it’s super-expensive.

We forego about $250 billion per year in tax revenues. It’s regressive — the richer you are, the bigger tax break you get.

And it’s inefficient because it causes people to buy excessive health insurance. So everyone in the room said, “You want something that is real cost control that we know it will work, go after this.”

The White House reached out to left wing reporters at Talking Points Memo to deny Gruber had a role, saying Gruber didn’t “work” at the White House.

“The fact of the matter is, the process associated with the writing and passing and implementing of the Affordable Care Act has been extraordinarily transparent,” White House press secretary Josh Earnest said during a news briefing in Myanmar, according to a transcript provided by the White House.

Wait for it!

He added, “It is Republicans who have been less than forthright and transparent about what their proposed changes to the Affordable Care Act would do in terms of the choices are available to middle class families.”

I don't know about anyone else, but for me, there is a reason this guy is being "allowed" to gaffe. This reminds me of the Lois Lerner planted question. I don't know what it means yet, but this is not happening without a deeper, darker more sinister reason..

Weinstein remembered Gruber had suggested that only states, not the federal government, could set up exchanges. In the case before the Supreme Court, the plaintiffs are arguing the Affordable Care Act allows only for states to set up the exchanges and that any federal subsidies handed out for health insurance are illegal.

Rich Weinstein is not a reporter. He does not have a blog. Until this week, the fortysomething's five-year old Twitter account had a follower count in the low double digits.

“I’m an investment adviser,” Weinstein tells me from his home near Philadelphia. “I’m a nobody. I’m the guy who lives in his mom’s basement wearing a tinfoil hat.” (He's joking about the mom and the tinfoil.)

He's also behind a series of scoops that could convince the Supreme Court to dismantle part of the Affordable Care Act.

Weinstein has absorbed hours upon hours of interviews with Jonathan Gruber, an MIT professor who advised the Massachusetts legislature when it created “Romneycare” and the Congress when it created “Obamacare.” Conservatives had been looking for ways to demonstrate that the wording of the ACA denied insurance subsidies to consumers in states that did not create their own health exchanges.

Weinstein found a clip of Gruber suggesting that states that did not create health insurance exchanges risked giving up the ACA's subsidies; it went straight into the King v. Burwell brief, and into a case that's currently headed to the Supreme Court.

Excise Tax on High-Cost Coverage (Cadillac Tax)


Summary:

Beginning in 2018, a 40 percent excise tax will be imposed on the value of health insurance benefits exceeding a certain threshold.

The thresholds are $10,200 for individual coverage and $27,500 for family coverage (indexed to inflation).

The thresholds increase for individuals in high-risk professions and for employers that have a disproportionately older population.

The Affordable Care Act included the Cadillac Tax as a means to control the spiraling cost of health care, by putting pressure on employers to offer less-generous health insurance plans than they have been.

The theory is that if people see more of the direct costs of their health care, they will be more conservative in using their insurance.

Remember the Cadillac tax deception that Gruber admitted was crafted by John Kerry to deceive the American people into thinking their taxes weren’t increasing?

Well it turns out that Obama was in on it from the beginning:

During the 2008 campaign Obama accused McCain of wanting to tax these cadillac plans.

In December of 2009 Obama told NPR he was on record as supporting the taxation of cadillac plans.

Of course, now we know he did do it and just hid it from the American people.

It's about all government union workers and unions getting to keep their Cadillac healthcare plan and the cost is going to go up but it will be pushed onto the people who got stuck buying Obamacare and the middle class. That's why the people who got Obamacare are now paying higher rates when that flim flam man in the Oval office told them their cost of healthcare would go down. Wait until after the New Year when the rates go up even more just so certain groups can keep their Cadillac plans while the rest of us are punished.
