NDAA clears House of Representatives
NDAA clears House; will improve Malmstrom, MT ANG

'GREAT FALLS -- The 2015 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) passed through the U.S. House of Representatives and will go to the U.S. Senate sometime next week.

Parts of the NDAA will help improve the mission at both Malmstrom Air Force Base and the Montana Air National Guard.

The bill addresses bringing all of the 450 ICBM silos up to date at Malmstrom and the other two ICBM bases in North Dakota and Wyoming.

Former 20th Air Force Command Chief David Nordel says that this will require empty silos to stay in a "warm" status so maintenance can be performed on silos that need it.

"As we implement the New START Treaty and get down to the total number of 400 missiles, we need to use the warm silos to move the missiles and keep the infrastructure updated and maintained," Nordel said....'

Re: NDAA clears House of Representatives
I've read through some of the new act. There's a lot to go through!

So far these are the things that stuck out the most:

Further reduction in active-duty troop numbers.

Repeal of keeping Officer retirements/discharges under a certain percentage (I couldn't find what percentage it used to be they were limited to).

Any place in the UCMJ that stated 'sodomy' is illegal will now be amended to state 'forced sodomy.'

The limit on the amount of days an member of the armed forces can be kept at a mental health facility will eliminated.

A couple WWI vets will be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.

They've amended who a Purple Heart can be awarded to include any member of the armed services that is killed or wounded by a "Foreign Terrorist Organization" and specifically mentioned Fort Hood. There will now be an award for civilian contractors that work for the DOD, killed on injured by a "Foreign Terrorist Organization." It will be called the 'Defense of Freedom' medal.

The Secretary of Defense nor any of the military branches will be allowed to ban the purchase of tobacco products on any base or vessel at sea.

There will be no pay raises for O-7 through O-10 officer grades.

That's all I have for now. I've only been skimming so I probably missed a lot too.

Interesting...I need to do some more reading into what the rest of the code is they're amending as it doesn't state everything there, just the bits and pieces they are changing.

One thing that did come to mind was...So who decides when someone is, "otherwise unable to perform the functions and duties of the office?"
