chickenpox virus in adults???
I'm in the southwest - have you noticed some sort of checkenpox virus in adults that already had it as kids? This is weird!

Re: chickenpox virus in adults???
Once a person has chickenpox the virus stays in their body for the rest of their life. It is a Herpes Simplex virus. In adults that have had chickenpox, a flare-up may occur as cold sores or as shingles and is thought to occur because of stress.

Shingles are very painful. Hope that you never get them.

It's not weird, it's called "shingles" and comes from the chicken pox virus. Just because you had it as a kid doesn't mean it will never come back. The virus lies dormant and in some adults it comes out as shingles which is very debilitating and painful. Not everyone gets it though. It's part of the Herpes virus.

Re: chickenpox virus in adults???
Anecdotally, I can report that I've heard of a surprising amount of shingles recently. Although I've read that 95% of adults have had chicken pox, and 60% of those will have it manifest itself later as shingles.

It's kinda like one of those things if you live long enough, it'll probably happen. But, I've heard of 3 cases in the past month of people I know. And I've never known anyone who had shingles before that. These are people in three different states, one of them in the South. Just my anecdotal report. Whattup with that?

As an ominous doom-glooming sidenote, one of these people wondered what the connection was between shingles (chicken pox) and smallpox, one of the deadliest and most feared diseases known. Could there be some deadly WMD terrorist plague currently spreading throughout the population? As usual, you heard about it on GLP first!

Re: chickenpox virus in adults???
you may have a point 126969, it may be smallpox. I'll tell you what tipped me off - a girl that was out of state, and got it as soon as she came back. And a guy that had 'em, then they went away, then they came back. What changed during that time? He switched to bottled water, then he switched back to city water, and when he did it came back. F*ing terrorists must have put smallpox in the city reservoir

You guys and this website serve the same exact purpose as Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh - you're just here to post suppressive fud and misdirection of attention and stupid little jokes whenever somebody comes too close to the truth. It's too bad Moses didn't poison all of you when he had the chance.

Re: chickenpox virus in adults???
another doWhen my son started kindergarten he came down with chickenpox within two weeks. I've never had any childhood illnesses like these so I thought nothing of it and tended to him.

Two weeks later at the age of 34 I came down with them. It was horrible; It was so bad that they sent me to the city for a special test because they thought I had TB. I mean they where in my lungs. They told me to stop smoking; otherwise they said I might die. The doc's said It would that 5 years for them to clear out of my chest.

This simply was the worst thing except child bearing that I've ever had to go thru. Protect yourself and get a pox shot. So you won't have to go thru what I did.

Today I still have some that never came out; they’re still under the skin.

Re: chickenpox virus in adults???
my dad just had shingles!
he said it was unbareable!

i know of a few other adults in different areas of the country who had it recently as well. is it just the age...or something more?

have you had your kids get the shots? or just get it naturally?

all three of mine had it naturally when they were young.
