Someone with more aviation knowledge might be able to verify, but Iam pretty sure to get max range the aircraft needs to be flying at a substantial altitude thus making it visible to radar?

No. This one is AirAsia. The others were Malaysia Airlines.

Although AirAsia is a crap airline and I would never fly them, my hopes and prayers go out to the passengers and crew. Sadly, this one must be gone, though.
