Anybody else had the coughing virus from hell?

Yes! Day 10 here and it's finally starting to go away. Seems everyone in our office has it and it sounds like the Mormon tubercular choir in there! Woman next to me coughed for a week straight and of course never covered her loud mouth and coughed toward me and sure enough I got it! Sucks as very little worked and my chest is so sore from coughing! :(

exactly. we have stayed home lots of days the past 3 weeks. fortunately school has been out for the holidays. tired of being sick and tired.

We are in Georgia, my kids had it. One of them is still clearing out at the 3 week mark.

Dallas texas here and yes I just got over it. My daughter 28 had to go to the Dr. today because of it. I was able to stay home and get better, but she works as a cook, and wanted to be sure she was not contagious. It lasted with me for well over a week.

sorry to hear. did they cough to the point they had to throw up? had that happen many times during this junk. this virus seems very vigilant.

No, not quite that hard, but they had extremely sore ribs.

Yes, and it is obnoxious. One of the things that has been helping is putting colloidal silver in the humidifier. When it was more acute, I was boiling water on the stove and inhaling the silver that way. It brought on coughing but it also brought things out and cleared it.
Also, a few drops of silver in each ear and taking it internally....there is plenty of info about this online.

It's our first year in Georgia, so some of it I chalked up to just trying to acclimate to the new environment.
I'm hearing the flu is horrid here this year and I worry about that...

im sure it's a virus but it sure is a vigilant one. my youngest caught it first.

Take an antihistamine at bedtime (like benadryl/diphenhydramine) -- like a Tylenol PM [the PM part is the benadryl = antihistamine]; ask pharmacist or MD if OK for you.

Antihistamine stops the post-nasal drip while you sleep; keeps that junk from dripping down the back of your throat. Helps you to not have so much goop to hack up in the morning. It's the gradual build up of goop that settles in your upper airways and works its way down little by little. Ask if an expectorant is OK (like Mucinex) for you to take if the gunk starts settling in your chest. It's the built-up congestion that allows bacteria to settle and make little bacteria babies; ergo, pneumonia.

Yup, wife, daughter and myself all had it. Lasted about 3 weeks. Wife thought she cracked a rib from coughing so much. Miserable stuff.

i do have some mucinex have been trying. it seems to help some.

Make sure you ask if OK for you (health conditions, etc.). If OK, take as directed and don't skip doses. Mucinex is really just guaifenesin which has been one of the active ingredient for eons found in the good 'ol cough meds mom used to give us. We'd get a spoonful every now and then if we coughed, but not necessarily the full amts consistently as allowed. Taken routinely, and in the approved amount, guaifenesin is a life-saver. It seriously provides the higher doses of this med, as approved. Take it around the clock, with lots of water, and do just as instructions indicate. By third day or so, you'll be hacking a lung up. Actually, you'll be expectorating (med is an expectorant) globs of mucous that -- not so many years ago -- killed so many.

I wouldn't have posted this kind of reply, but this has been a really bad year for congestion, etc. There have been historic years for pneumonias and deaths, esp in little ones and older folks. Some OTC meds now available really are life savers. It's just the words and instructions that can be confusing sometimes.

I had it for about a month last year, and it was horrid. The only thing that helped was an albuterol breathing treatment. Good luck.

That is definitely a big helper. The breathing treatment stuff opens the airways nice and wide. If the goop if more loose and less sticky (water & expectorant), up it comes with a good cough. But every cough can be different. Ask your doctor and feel better!

thanks for the info. i remember taking guafenesin in the past. definitely makes you cough it up.

hands are raw from washing. done lots of cleaning as well.

We saw it here in Alabama. It got into the local school system and spread like wild fire. All the doctor offices and local er were calling it bronchitis but we all know better.

I live in Maryland, my daughter had it, I have had it for 2 weeks. I couldn't get out of bed literally. It started out as super tired than a cough, then super duper crazy burning sinuses that would go into this horrific headache in the back of my head, never in my life have I been this sick. I went on antibiotics on Tuesday and thank gosh today I feel better and finally out of bed. Good Luck!! no clue what it is but it's horrible.

yep. been to doctor with kids and myself 8 times in december. unreal. even had pinkeye. hadnt had that since i was a kid. guess should stop going to doctor office lol

Yes in AZ. Had it for nearly 2 months! Cant believe i didnt cough up my stomach it was so violent, lol
