I go there once in a while and get their cheeses, maybe some imported pastry or bread treats, or chocolate. I thought I'd build up gradually to other types of food they carry. Hmmmm. Remember when Ikea was selling horsemeat in something they sell? I do. I don't buy food when I go into a department store setting, so I missed that, too. Is there something about these foreign type stores in the U.S. that keep getting caught selling horsemeat? Greater is He who is in me than he who is in the world. There aren't enough horse slaughter house to meet the criteria. Now, don't get me wrong, way back in the 1970's there was a major scandal with Jack in the box and horse meat. It was true and it did happen. I personally don't think there are enough horses in North America grown and raised for consumption. 100% Horsemeat seems a little stretched. Like a lot stretched and I'd be looking for another underlying agenda. Pass the hot sauce, regardless, you'd eat your left freaking arm if hungry enough. Which might not be that far away. IDW User ID: 66740779 United States 01/06/2015 10:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Although I am apposed to eating horses, it's only a cultural idea that creates that aversion. Actually horse meat is about as high a quality red meat as there is. It's low in fat content and tasty. In fact most can't tell it from beef, that's why it is so often used in place of it. What I can't understand is why it is economically feasible to substitute horse meat for beef. It takes more money to raise a horse than a cow. What really made me wonder was when I lived across the street from a dairy farm, when an old cow would stop producing or die, a guy in an unmarked white truck would come and winch it aboard, and the guy that owned the farm was touchy about who that guy worked for. I always assumed he was selling them to local butchers or meat distributors. A lot of damned dairy cows end up at Golden corral and outback steakhouse |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 66707854 Greece 01/06/2015 10:14 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | In Australia there are a huge amount of wild horses. They are so numerous, they eat all vegetation and drink up all water required for their own well being, resulting in starvation quite often. Some of those wild horses are being used for the horse meat industry. In a perfect world, no being would have to eat another being. But we do not live in a perfect world, and when having to judge between eating animals caged their whole life vs eating wild animals that were able to run free their whole life, i would easily pick the latter. Unless you are a vegetarian, which i admire greatly, then eating horse meat of wild horses that were free and were end professionally with a minimum of pain, is the least of all evils. Australia is one of the greatest horse meat exporters. They basically turned their homeland into a big wild horse farm of which probably only some monopoly there profits. If you eat meat, you might argue if certain animals should be protected because of the bond we feel with them, like dogs or cats for example, or horses. But you cannot argue that living a free life rather than being raised in confined environments for the sole purpose of meat production, is hugely the better option. In that sense, Australia is an inspiring model... Maybe they should have used buffaloes instead of wild horses i guess. But let's assume the Australians turned all vegetarians, and would stop exporting horse meat. The consequences would be horses eating up all vegetation, as they have almost no predators to fear there. Other species would go extinct. Horses would die of starvation, or they would be killed by crocodiles later on in an attempt to get to the last few water reserves. I am not sure if getting eaten alive by some croc is any better than getting killed by a professional trained for it. |
