I find it funny that what I was taught is that she was a prostitute and that's far from the truth. The Catholic church definitely did her wrong. Even without the gnostic material, the biblical canon makes a strong case that Jesus thought highly of her. For example, she was on of the first evangelists (along with other unlikely candidates like the Samaritan woman at the well, the Ethiopian eunuch, and the man out of whom Jesus cast the Legion.) I think they picked and chose who they wanted to talk about. They left all else out. It was one of the main reason I had to rethink everything I was taught. "Re-think" is one of my favorite words, and I'm sure my work colleagues are tired of hearing it. I'm always saying, "We need to re-think the way we do some things." One of my older tag lines on GLP is "The way we think about things determines what we think about things." We become like that to which we are devoted. - Choose wisely. |

I think of it as Jesus explaining how he relates to God. He doesn't see loss as we do. He thinks of it as God removing fruitless things from his life. Most people bewail their losses and become trapped in trying to regain what was lost, or using it as an excuse for not moving forward. Jesus takes all losses as God removing something he no longer needed. |
