The first object encountered {in the tabernacle} is the altar.

Behind the altar is the laver. Here we are reminded that God is clean. "Clean" describes the essential character of God, who is faithful, upright, merciful, and true. To be unclean is to fail to share that character, and that which does not share God's character cannot exist in his white-hot presence ( Isa 6:5 ). Thus, it is necessary for those who would come into his presence to be washed and made clean ( Psalm 51:7 ), and the laver represents both that necessity and that possibility.

The laver is a large basin where the priest wash, before serving in the tabernacle.

There will be an end times tabernacle:

And God will be with us after the millenial reign (1000 years that Jesus rules):

Rev 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

Some believe that Rev 21:3 means God will 'personally' dwell with people:

The word “tabernacle” means dwelling place. Believers will have intimate fellowship with God on an ongoing basis. The tabernacle of the Old Testament only typified the Shekinah glory of the Lord Jesus.

The tabernacle of eternity is His very presence.

And it appears from Rev 15:5 & 8 there will be a tabernacle in heaven & during the millenial reign:

5 And after that I looked, and, behold, the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened

8 And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from his power; and no man was able to enter into the temple, till the seven plagues of the seven angels were fulfilled.

Sacrifices will continue during the millenial reign in the tabernacle - Ezekiel 43-44:

27 And in the day that he goeth into the sanctuary, unto the inner court, to minister in the sanctuary, he shall offer his sin offering, saith the Lord God.

28 And it shall be unto them for an inheritance: I am their inheritance: and ye shall give them no possession in Israel: I am their possession.

29 They shall eat the meat offering, and the sin offering, and the trespass offering: and every dedicated thing in Israel shall be theirs....

However, there will be a tabernacle during the great tribulation, the millenial reign, in heaven, and once again on earth; after a new earth is created.

We have several chapters in Ezekiel and a chapter in Rev that are devoted to measuring and building the end times temple; the end times being from the beginning of the tribulation to the end of the millenial reign.

Immediately after the gog magog war chapter 39 - we find the next chapter (40) - the temple measurements being given to Ezekiel:

2 In the visions of God brought he me into the land of Israel, and set me upon a very high mountain, by which was as the frame of a city on the south.

3 And he brought me thither, and, behold, there was a man, whose appearance was like the appearance of brass, with a line of flax in his hand, and a measuring reed; and he stood in the gate....

6 Then came he unto the gate which looketh toward the east, and went up the stairs thereof, and measured the threshold of the gate, which was one reed broad; and the other threshold of the gate, which was one reed broad....

The literal dimensions given here are, to say the least, quite impractical. "The square of the Temple given in Ezekiel 42:20 is six times as large as the circuit of the wall encircling the old Temple. The city of Jerusalem, here has an area between three and four thousand square miles (about ten times the square miles within the Houston city limits). As for the reason why such a material Temple was prophesied for Israel upon their return from Babylon, we can by no means be sure. It could very well be that, IF Israel had returned en masse as God intended, and IF they had truly rallied to God, believing and obeying him, that such a magnificent edifice would indeed have been built. Since no such pre-conditions ever were fulfilled, God did not build it, nor allow it to be built. In any case, such a vision of so grand a Temple would have served to encourage and motivate Israel's return; and that might have been God's sole reason for giving the vision. We cannot pretend to know....

Perhaps it has something to do with this verse in Rev 11

2 But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.

In Ezekiel 40 God is telling him to measure everything-including the court.

However, we don't know if this is the same temple as Rev 11; since we aren't given any measurements.

Also, the dimensions of the court could be given at a later time.

From Ezekiel 41 through 43 we are given the precise measurements of the temple and all that makes up the temple.

In 43 God tells us what this temple is for:

Ezekiel 43:7 And he said unto me, Son of man, the place of my throne, and the place of the soles of my feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel for ever....

We also see this in Rev 21

3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

The question is how many more temples will there be?

Ezekiel's Millennial Temple will not be built on the existing Temple Mount in Jerusalem. Instead, according to Ezekiel 40:2, it will be built on "a very high mountain."....

I should point out, however, that this temple will be built for the millennium; it will not be the temple that is defiled by the Beast (aka Antichrist) of Revelation 13:1-10 (see notes) during the tribulation. Therefore, at least two temples are in Israel's future - one for the Beast to defile and another for the millennium, built to Ezekiel's specifications.

I think you're mistaken about the use of the phrase "this generation." It appears his intent was to use "this" to describe the generation in which those signs appear, as the OP indicated. In other words, WHEN all these signs start to appear, then THIS generation in which they start appearing won't pass away until they are all fulfilled.

Ah yes - we won't know the day or hour - but we will know the season.

Matthew, Mark and Luke all point to the season when they tell us we will SEE ALL these things.

When you SEE the trees sprouting leaves, you know that summer is nigh - LIKEWISE when you SEE ALL these things...

SEEING ALL these thing includes the antichrist in the holy place/temple:

Matthew 24:15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place...

If you are in a field/rooftop - FLEE...

From this verse in Rev 21 - we see that the tabernacle does not mean temple in the new heaven:

22 And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.

Therefore, I will agree with the author stating - there could be 2 temples; but would add - at most 2 temples.

These verses in Daniel 8 cast some doubt on whether there will be a second end-times temple:

13 Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot?

14 And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.

So far we've learned that Ezekiel's temple is enormous and possibly impractical to build.

Thus, we have an argument that it is not a literal temple.
