Just about every generation said - Everything that could be invented has already been invented

I found the names of the countries on a map I tried to post, but couldn't.

What was interesting is the author included all the countries of the persian empire i.e. Iraq, etc.

Most today just list Iran as the persian country.

In these verses we have one group where God brings ALL of the army to the mountains of Israel, and another group leaves a sixth of them behind:

Ezekiel 38:4 And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army

Ezekiel 39:2 And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee

One group God draws them with a hook in jaw. The other - is thinking they'll take advantage of the situation.

Ezekiel 38:11...I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates,

12 To take a spoil, and to take a prey....

Ezekiel 39

3 And I will smite thy bow out of thy left hand, and will cause thine arrows to fall out of thy right hand.

Ezekiel 38

4 ...even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords

My thoughts are - if it's only one group, what hands are holding the buckler and sword, if the left is holding the bow, and the right the arrow?

Additionally , the group with bows and arrows, God yanks them out of their hands and forces them to the ground & feeds them to the wild beasts & birds.

The other group with swords He:

21 And I will call for a sword against him throughout all my mountains, saith the Lord God: every man's sword shall be against his brother.

22 And I will plead against him with pestilence and with blood; and I will rain upon him, and upon his bands, and upon the many people that are with him, an overflowing rain, and great hailstones, fire, and brimstone.

Are there 2 burial gounds?

11 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give unto Gog a place there of graves in Israel, the valley of the passengers on the east of the sea: and it shall stop the noses of the passengers: and there shall they bury Gog and all his multitude: and they shall call it The valley of Hamongog.

17 And, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord God; Speak unto every feathered fowl, and to every beast of the field, Assemble yourselves, and come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that ye may eat flesh, and drink blood.

Ezekiel 39

4 Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands, and the people that is with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured.

Notice in verses 4 and 17 of Ezekiel 39, it appears to say the same thing.

What about the fact that "Israel" is scattered and the tribes are not anywhere near Jerusalem? Are we sure it is talking about only the middle east? Just curious what others think about this.
Israel (the lost tribes) doesn't know who they are right?

If you read Ezekiel 38 & 39

It's only after the gog magog war he gathers them in earnest:

Eze 38

8 After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword

Eze 39

25 ...NOW will I bring again the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of Israel, and will be jealous for my holy name;

In both verses he seems to be addressing gog.

However, in verse 5, it's not clear who he's referring to.

5 Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord God.

Some believe gog is a general name for a leader - same as the assyrian.

This belief is justified - owing to the fact that gog and magog also appear in Rev 20:

7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,

8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog, and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.

We know the gog of Rev 20 is not the same as the one in Ezekiel 39, because he is buried after the gog magog war in the valley of Hamongog in Israel.

Gog, as a leader, only shows up in 3 books of the bible:

Ezekiel 38, 39 and Rev 20

Correction - the name gog appears in 3 books of the bible; 2 where gog is portrayed as a leader.

1 Chronicles 5:4...The sons of Joel; ...Gog his son...

Ezekiel and Rev (gog is a leader)

Based on this, we can't be certain that gog represents only one leader in the gog, magog war.

Another thing curiously enough, magog in Rev 20 is not the name of a country, but person

Gog in Rev 20 is why there is so much confusion on his identity:

Some say gog is the antichrist; others he's the assyrian.

A few say 38 & 39 are 2 separate battles etc.

prove that gog is not the antichrist.

I'm not saying the antichrist isn't involved in the gog magog war - because I do believe there are 2 leaders here.

But at this point - we wouldn't know he's the antichrist - because his identity is not revealed until he defiles the temple and declares he's greater than God.

It's controversial whether satan is gog.

The argument is satan and gog are one.

There is no reason why satan can't control gog - the same way he controls the antichrist.

Meaning they are not one in the same - but 2 separate critters.

With gog representing a leader

A question I have for Rev 20

8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog, and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea

Is - satan goes out to deceive the nations of the earth, and out of nowhere inserts the names gog and magog.

It's commonly believed it's because these are enemies of the kingdom - but so are all the nations satan deceived.

This could be interpreted many ways - and is.

Most say gog and magog are just countries.

Some read it to say - satan deceived the nations, deceived gog, and deceived magog.

Of course there is a very significant reason God placed them in this verse - and it will probably be debated til the end of the millenia.

However as one person said -

The names/terms of associated with Gog and Magog are in question. Much of the biblical documentation is in Ezekiel (Ezek. 38-39).

One last thing, let's examine these verses from Revelation 19 and Ezekiel 39:

Revelation 19:17-19 – Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great. And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.

Ezekiel 39:17-22 – come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that ye may eat flesh, and drink blood. Ye shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fatlings of Bashan. And ye shall eat fat till ye be full, and drink blood till ye be drunken, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you. Thus ye shall be filled at my table with horses and chariots, with mighty men, and with all men of war, saith the Lord GOD.

These verses lead many to believe there are 2 separate wars in Ezekiel - gog magog and Armageddon.
