The antichrist begins his meteoric rise which culminates in his going into the temple taking away the daily sacrifice and declaring he is God. (2 thes 2):

2 Thessalonians 2 (KJV)

2 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,

2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

When Daniel is given the interpretation by the angel, he's told the vision is for end times - “Son of man,” he said to me, “understand that the vision concerns the time of the end.”.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 49492925

There are many examples in the book of Daniel about the meaning of the end of time that we can't mistake it for anything but the end of men's reign on earth:

Daniel 8:17 “Son of man,” he said to me, “understand that the vision concerns the time of the end.”

19 He said: “I am going to tell you what will happen later in the time of wrath, because the vision concerns the appointed time of the end.

------------

Here are other examples of verses that point out the visions are for end times:

Daniel 11:27....for yet the end shall be at the time appointed.

11:5 it is yet for a time appointed

------------

Then we get the end, meaning the great tribulation and then judgment day for everyone.

Then Daniel 12

1 And at that time shall Michael stand up for .....thy people

For there shall be a time of trouble such as never was since there was a nation.

9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.

13 But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days.

Mathew 24

21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. 22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened

So it's obvious that the end is the end of time and not just the end of some point in history i.e. end of Roman Empire, etc.
