When Gideon presented the offering, an angel of the Lord gave him further instructions:
Judges 6:20 And the angel of God said unto him, Take the flesh and the unleavened cakes, and lay them upon this rock, and pour out the broth. And he did so.
Quoting: b4its2l8 Then the angel showed Gideon a very convincing sign - he touch the flesh with his staff, and fire consumed it and the cakes: Judges 6:21 Then the angel of the Lord put forth the end of the staff that was in his hand, and touched the flesh and the unleavened cakes; and there rose up fire out of the rock, and consumed the flesh and the unleavened cakes. Then the angel of the Lord departed out of his sight. Here is a repost of Gideon's asking God for a sign: Judges 6:17 And he said unto him, If now I have found grace in thy sight, then shew me a sign that thou talkest with me --- At this point he had no further doubts that it was the Lord who spoke to him: Judges 6:22 And when Gideon perceived that he was an angel of the Lord, Gideon said, Alas, O Lord God! for because I have seen an angel of the Lord face to face. After this Gideon tore down the altar of baal and erected one to the Lord God on high; sending the people around him into a frenzy. When Gideon realized his life was in danger - he once again pleaded to God for reassurance and another sign. Gideon asks God once again - Are you 'sure' I'm your guy? If so (for proof) - let me put out this bit of fleece - and if there is dew on it in the morning - and no wetness on the ground I'll believe it's to be. Judges 6:36 And Gideon said unto God, If thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said, 37 Behold, I will put a fleece of wool in the floor; and if the dew be on the fleece only, and it be dry upon all the earth beside, then shall I know that thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said.
