My retirement money needs to be placed somewhere. If you could buy a stock, gold, silver etc, what would you buy now and why?

During WW2 my granpa refused to comply with a national order to hand over all the household pots and pans.

All over the country people handed over their cooking pots because the war office requisitioned them to make bombs and tanks.

After they'd collected tons and tons of saucepans, it was found that they were completely useless: the wrong grade of steel/aluminum alloy for weapons.

Many years after the war, someone found the secret tip where the war office had dumped all the ordered pots.

Meanwhile, they had to quickly make millions of new pots in replacement when they could least afford to use precious steel / aluminum.

My granpa knew this all along being a science teacher. I'm sure he'd love GLP. He'd probably be advising you to hide your pension funds in plain sight - buy good farmland and grow your own.

Personally I would invest some of it with your family.

Example. Many folks could use it to pay down high interest debt with a loan from you.

And in return you would set a reasonable rate of return on the interest you would receive from them.

It would be a win/win situation for all parties concerned.

Of course it would depend if you trusted the family or friends you lent your money to.

If you can't trust family who can you trust?

My grandpa told me this about investing safely: Buy stock in things you use. If you get gas at a Shell station then buy Shell stock(RDSa.L). Verizon(VZ) for your cell phone/land line/internet. Buy utility stock in your electric company (DUK). If you drive a Ford then buy Ford stock (F). On and on and on.
This way, you get paid back a percentage for your purchases and those become discounted from the companies you do business with.
World conglomerate food companies like Con Agra(CAG), Nestle (NESN.VX), and Monsanto (MON) are always going to be a safe bet because people still have to eat regardless of where the tumult occurs.

Monsanto is slowly killing our crops. There is no way I would invest with that company, regardless how good an investment this is.

Pay off any and all debts that you may have. Cut monthly expenses. Buy silver.

I would put my money into a secure isolated location, build a greenhouse, buy seeds and books full of knowledge and dig in because life is about to get interesting and it is going to be the Chinese curse interesting.

Other than that I would go with gold.

I don't understand why no one has told you to spend it all since you're most likely going to be dead either later this year, or within the next few years. Take a nice long vacation somewhere you have always wanted to go. Enjoy the finest food and wine at every meal. Don't worry about buying land, guns, seeds, bitcoin, or precious metals.

Basically, enjoy whatever you can right now, because you won't be able to enjoy life in 7 months.

When the dollar collapses in September, all of your investments will be worthless, gold and silver included. No one will trade anything for gold and silver because they can be easily counterfeited.

If you really want to live through the hell that is coming, then buy guns and ammo, canned food, seeds, everything that the other nutcases have said.

I am not planning on living much longer, so I am spending my money.

So the original post was actually a serious question?

First and foremost, I highly doubt you are never going to retire, unless you quit now and enjoy the next six months vacationing in Australia or somewhere.

As I said earlier, gold and silver are worthless investments because they are easily counterfeited.

If you want a real investment and believe you are going to be around after WW3, then buy art. Original art works from centuries ago always keep their value, and they are not easily counterfeited.

But remember, these works of art cannot be sold to just anyone for food.

If you are worried about fake silver/gold, you can buy old US coins - old dimes/quarters from coin shops.

Otherwise, some people buy from local coin shops so they can buy with cash. Make sure you check out more than one shop in your area. Prices are different based on what they want to sell it for at that location.

Some people are joking. Stay away from bitcoin, Testla and IBonds. (I Bonds are low rates currently).

Buy a boat. Stack it and travel.

Just travel.

And whatever happens, Imo the best place to be would be out on the water with my loved ones and the tools and means to stay around a bit longer.

silver? it has been down 5 years in a row and industrial demand will never be what it once was. Buy bio tech stocks. I have almost tripled my investment in 4 years. If that was silver I would have lost 50% of the original investment.

I think if you look at YTD commodity performance, it is clear we are in the deflationary decline many warned about years ago. It will be at least 2022 before we see a rise in commodities and PMs
