We claim to not be animals--and we consider animal-like behavior to be crude, and beneath us.

But aren't we just natural creatures ourselves?

Perhaps that is our problem--having disassociated ourselves with nature. The indigenous did not fall into this same trap--they preferred to identify with nature.

On the one hand we claim it is "natural" to want to procreate, compete, eat, survive, etc. On the other hand, we say that these animalistic behaviors are beneath us.

We claim to be more intelligent than nature.

How do we know that we are intelligent to a higher degree?

Who is to say what quality of intelligence, or degree of intelligence is latent in animals? They could (and do) have sensibilities that we do not. Just because we claim they cannot grasp abstract, or metaphor does not mean that our way of "thinking" is necessarily superior.

We set a standard based on our own limitations of understanding. It is a self-fulfilling legacy with only one reference point by which to measure--logic, and analysis--something we grasp well. How convenient that is has become the standard for "intelligence."

But what if there is a superior form of intelligence that exists outside of logic and analysis, metaphor and abstract? We wouldn't know or accept it, since we are so busy being much "smarter" than the creatures that have survived longer than us--creatures whose existence we depend upon, that actually feed us, and cure us--like plants, and sea life for instance.

It is a sure sign of arrogance and willful ignorance to identify ourselves as superior to nature, when we completely depend on plants, and animals to sustain our very lives and existence.

Are you human, or animal? Or---are you human and animal? What part of being an animal would you rather not accept?

Smarter than animals? A frog would probably think we'd be piss poor at living in a stream too so from it's perspective who'd be the stupid one?

Humans are out-of-sync with their own planet. They are, at this time, way worse than the animals. Humans are dangerous to themselves and others.

It would seem that this is the case because we have disassociated ourselves with animals, and therefore, nature at large.

So it's funny to me hearing so many people say that we are above nature, and in general "smarter" than animals, when we have lost our own identity in context to nature.

It's a bit like watching a train wreck.

I am not animal I am of mankind which is not animal but the animals were made by the Lord God so they are wonderful. Animals are smarter than man give them credit for. Does not mean we are in the same family we are not. Animals have instincts that The Lord gave them, that is passed on to their young, the are shorter lived mostly, but their survival are given to them, they mate at the time appointed and not at other times.

Man does went it isn't mating time. I say know man and women have over done the mating cause they are so confused they do not know what mating is.

Well, I look at it this way. Any organism that consciously allows the destruction of the very environment that keeps it alive can't be intelligent at all.

So no, humans are fucking dumb as dogshit.

Dolphins are smarter than us. They just don't have thumbs and live under water.

Unless you really believe that everyday, average humans who are raised by wolves since age three, are all going to be able to discover zero.

With all due respect, I can't even begin to formulate a rebuttal. It would make no difference if I tried.

Re: Are humans really smarter than animals? Or are they just animals themselves?
Humans are animals in the same way all animals are in biology.

But we have been given a gift of consciousness, to know what 'right and wrong' is , of what 'beauty and ugly' is, what 'love and hate' is, or what 'wonder or future holds for us'. No animal has this spiritual dimension. Humans ask questions.

We are smarter than animals, unless we let our animal instincts supercede our God given spiritual condition.

Then we become the worst type of animal. We kill, steal and slave for pleasure. Animals have instinct, humans have hate to go along with it. A lethal combination.

Barbarism is not behind us, it is beneath us...waiting for it's chance.

Re: Are humans really smarter than animals? Or are they just animals themselves?
It seems like many people consider the superior intelligence of humans as some special attribute given by a "God."

Interesting.

Because if you were on a mountainside, and a mountain lion approached you--survival would ultimately boil down to basic animal instinct.

At the end of the day, we eat animals and plants that animals ate. Our survival depends on this. We procreate and protect our young--just like animals.

I think we just THINK we are different.

In reality, we are the same--with an added artificial flair for "intelligence."

Humans have the greatest capacity for logic and rational thinking. This is part of what us sets apart from the animals.
(Whether Humans choose to exercise there logic an reason, or live instinctually is their choice.)

Soul or not, this is just not true intrinsically.

We are taught "it" by words. Both with language and writing. And "animals" seem to know consequences much better than humans I'd say...
