Probably just a drill, but USAF jet activity UP at McConnell AFB
The action hasw been very low and quiet at McConnell AFB [Wichita KS] until mid-afternoon yesterday. Since then I've heard planes taking off intermittantly [I can see the Kansas Air National Guard control tower from my home office window]... probably just a drill or routine exercise.... but, you never know. Anyone else seeing accelerated activity?

Coincidentally- last week it was announced that here at McConnell [in building 40] there is a new high-tech analysis center that -through satellite links- gets info directly from the field in Iraq [or wherever we have troops on active duty] where it is then transmitted in near real-time for complete analysis by specialists
here in Wichita. The single pic that was released showed an Air National
Guardsman [I found their involvement
just a little strange] peering intently
at a bank of computer monitors with images from all around the world - some from the ground, others from LandSat and still others from airborne craft.

The 'grand-opening' was held last week with the usual brass and politicos in attendance-and of course, the local press - who were denied entrance to the actual building. Instead, they were shown a brief, fast-moving video presentation created by the USAF public relations departments that only showed the most basic of operations now being conducted in a nondescript building about 1/2 mile from where I'm typing this.

I can understand their need for security... just as I also understand that this new little blockhouse increases our local viability as a potential terrorist target.
