Disgraced Rotherham Borough Council is set to be taken over by the Government after it was branded “not fit for purpose."

In a damning report, the authority was savaged for failing the 1,400 victims of child sex exploitation who suffered “appalling” abuse between 1997 and 2013.

The authority was accused of being “in denial” and failing to protect children due to “misplaced political correctness”.

The report was published after allegations emerged that two councillors and a police officer had sex with minors.
