Why Aren't Russian Immigrant Families Converting?

Some blame the olim themselves, who come from an atheist society. Others blame the process, the judges and the Rabbinate.

As a Jew, I don't have a problem with banning pork. It is forbidden and it isn't good for the body. And tptb sneak it into everything that they can....even makeup.

Makes you wonder just why they go to such devious lengths over one animal, when G-d gave us so many others.

See, that's where it gets tricky. We are expected to share the same dining spaces, yet our faith forbids us to even touch where pork has been. They keep the pork in the same refrigerators, prepare the pork on the same counters, the same skillets, the same grills as they do the other food. Even the smell of it is offensive to us.

I'm not for banning it from those who do wish to eat it, but neither am I for forcing any portion of it on those of us who don't, which diaspora Jews have had to deal with for generations. And then society labels us 'elitist' when we open up our own shops/restaurants in order to keep away from it.

So what's the answer when there is no understanding?

Of course it is Godzilla! That's why I told you to swim out there and go on a rampage in some country to make the world thinks otherwise! You're the only radioactive beasty out there and it should stay that way. I could perhaps talk to Gomez and have him and Morticia plot a covert scheme of diabolical hilarity to run opposite of your rampage and they can control the world.

Then again, I just might get the Jazzy Hammer of Love that bans me across the breadth and length of GLP for going this far, but then again I could do this!!!

 Quoting: JazzyG

But the fact is, Jews have managed to do it without infringing on anyone else's rights.

The Muslims are saying, if I can't have it - then neither can anyone else.

If the kitchen at the cafeteria isn't kosher or halal - then you brown bag it. If your God is going to condemn you to hellfire over non-kosher/halal foods from accidentally touching your food - that's not a very good God.

The real truth is that before refrigeration & stoves/ovens, and ways to santize easily - the rules made complete sense. Salmonella, trichinosis, etc - were serious issues. You don't eat pork because it has all kinds of icky things - but refrigeration and proper cooking, makes them safe to eat.

But I do thank both the Jews and Muslims for their restaurants and delis (got our corned beef order in for St. Pat's- can't wait!)!! Y'all make good tasty food!!

And as for the smell....my Jewish friend - loved coming over for Easter dinner. She loved ham!! and bacon!! LOL Not all Jews keeps kosher. ;)

Once again, that's where it gets sticky...

We are bombing your countries. We are helping to drive your people out of their lands.

Come to our land!

We welcome you! We open our borders to you! We embrace you!

But leave your faith at the door.

You will become one of us now or you can go back home where our bombs can fall on you.

I'm not cheerleading for the muslims. The whole mess started in their own lands. But it was when outsiders felt the need to interfere in that and dictate their own sense of morality upon others, that the problem, and all that comes with it, blossomed into what it is now.

If adapting to a new culture is so hard - then why aren't they going to other Muslim countries? Saudi, Kuwait, Bahrain, UAE, Indonesia, 1/2 of Africa....but nope, that's not where they're going.

So they can just suck it up and deal with pork. And do it with gratitude for the shelter and the food and graciousness of their hosts. Because that's what REFUGEES should be doing.

Jazzy, if you came to stay at my house, would you expect me to throw out all my bacon and buy a 2nd refrigerator and new dishware and flatware just to accommodate your needs during your stay? As your host, I would not serve you pork or shellfish. But I'm not going to stop my family from eating it.

You're missing one very important point. You weren't bombing my house so that I had to come to yours or die in my own from your bombs.

People say that the muslims are trying to force their own beliefs on others and make them fall in step with them. But would they have even traveled out of their own lands in hordes if it weren't for the bombs? The other countries opened their borders to them precisely because they felt GUILTY for causing it.

Who is trying to force assimilation on who?

Syria was bombing itself for a year before this.
People are only dropping bombs because the billions didn't stand up to their own few thousand radicals. They STILL aren't standing up and fighting them. Before blaming everyone else for their woes - they need to own up to their own involvements.

Where there is war, there are refugees. Always have been, always will be. Before they make demands, how about being thankful to the people that took you in?

If it was up to me - I'd send everyone back home - from refugee to fighters. I'd station troops at every border encircling the middle east and they'd have orders to shoot anyone trying to cross in any direction. Until the ME figures it shit out.

They've been arguing for 1,000's of years. I done with the whole lot of them. And Israel - needs to move to Greenland or something. (Which I know...defeats the purpose of Israel - but they can move back once the rest of the ME destroys itself!)

Hussein, Gadaffi, Assad, Mubarak, etc...they all were brutal dictators who the world saw as monsters. But they controlled their countries in ways that worked for THEIR CULTURES.

It was when western civilizations decided that the ways of those dictators and cultures were wrong, according to THEIR OWN standards, that the 'problems' began to seep into their own lands.

They opened up pandoras' box and now are desperate as to how to deal with it.

I've got no use for Assad and Mubarak. But I did have a lot of respect for Gadaffi and a tad for Hussein.

On the other hand - if the other local nations are asking for our help, or Russia's help....then is it fair to place all the blame on the western nations?

These fights are so old - I thing there's more than enough blame to go around. I'd rather everyone just let the past go and move forward peacefully. Until that happens - everyone is gonna keep sticking fingers in all the pies for different reasons at different times.

Again - if it was up to me, I'd send everyone home for a timeout on the naughty step. Then we can all focus on protecting our own borders and let everyone else fight amongst themselves.

Yep. They think that because one evil isn't as smelly as the others, it will somehow bring less stink into their lives. They have allowed themselves to be brainwashed into thinking that they MUST choose from what is placed before them, no matter how vile it is. But, in the end, the stench ends up not only surrounding them, but permeating their own minds.
