Israeli PM condemns Russia for massive missile barrage across Ukraine

Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid on Monday said he “strongly condemns” Russia’s barrage of fatal bombardments across Ukraine, which he said targeted “the civilian population in Kyiv and other cities across Ukraine.”

Lapid offered his “sincere condolences to the families of the victims and the Ukrainian people.”

Opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu said the new maritime border deal is “a historic surrender” to Hezbollah.

“This is not a historic deal, this is a historic surrender,” he said in a statement. “A liquidation sale by Lapid.”

Likud MK Nir Barkat said in an interview that Lapid’s caretaker government did not have the legitimacy to sign such an agreement.

“This is true capitulation,” said Barkat. “A weak government that is ready to give in. They don’t have a mandate, they don’t have the authority to sign such a contract, this is a caretaker government.”

Government votes to advance Lebanon maritime border deal

Israeli government ministers voted Wednesday to move to the final stage of the approval process for the maritime border agreement with Lebanon.

The full cabinet gave its blessing to the deal hours after the smaller security cabinet voted to back it. The US-brokered proposal will now go to the Knesset, where lawmakers will have 14 days to review it before the government can give its final approval.

UN overwhelmingly rejects Russia’s ‘illegal’ annexation of Ukrainian regions

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The UN General Assembly voted overwhelmingly Wednesday to condemn Russia’s “attempted illegal annexation” of four Ukrainian regions and demand its immediate reversal, a sign of strong global opposition to the seven-month war and Moscow’s attempt to grab its neighbor’s territory.

The vote in the 193-member world body was 143-5 with 35 abstentions. It was the strongest support from the General Assembly for Ukraine and against Russia of the four resolutions it has approved since Russian troops invaded Ukraine February 24. Israel voted in favor.

The White House has listed the two-state solution in Israel as one of its priorities in the Biden-Harris administration’s newly unveiled 2022 National Security Strategy.

The document released Wednesday states the US will continue to promote a viable two-state solution that "preserves Israel's future as a Democratic state while meeting Palestinian aspirations for a secure and viable state of their own".

Continued advocacy for a two-state solution comes as part of a plan to “support de-escalation and integration” in the Middle East.
